Where did you register

Mary, on April 29, 2020 at 2:54 PM Posted in Registry 1 18
Hey! Where did everyone register? Was it here or did y’all use somewhere else? Also what did you all register for? Idk what I should get— kitchen stuff, decorations, big ticket items like furniture, bathroom stuff?

We had registries through Bed, Bath, and Beyond and Wayfair. In terms of what to register for: what do you need? Most stores will have checklists. I would think about what things you need/want for now (whether they are things you don't have or upgrades of older stuff) and also think about things you may want/need for the future (keeping in mind whether or not you have the space to store it in the interim). It's always good to have a wide range of prices (low end and some high end big ticket items) to accommodate all budgets. Sometimes people will go in together as a group for higher priced items.

We registered at Target only. I want to upgrade some of my kitchen items. They have a checklist you can use to help with it.

I chose Bed Bath and Beyond and Amazon. I mostly put a lot of kitchen items like pots, pans, dinner ware, appliances, and also some big items like vacuums, steam cleaners, etc. Since my fiancé and I haven't gotten our own home yet (living with his parents), we don't really know what we need for our future home, so I didn't include any bath or bedroom items (just towels because those are expensive! Who would have thought lol)

We are doing Zola (or Crate & Barrel) and Lowes or Home Depot. The main thing I want is to get a nice full set of dinnerware - enough for a big family dinner with serving dishes and everything. I picked a Crate & Barrel set and all the accessories. We will also register for some good quality cookware and tools since we are homeowners now. Personally I think it's good to register for staple items like kitchen utensils/dishes/cookware, small appliances, and cleaning/home improvement stuff. Those are things that you probably won't change your taste on later. Decorative items like pillows, linens, etc are a lot more dependent on current trends and your current home and your choices could change later if you move.

We registered at Amazon and Bed, Bath and Beyond. I’ve been noting things around the house that we could use and/or update from what we already have.

We did Zola! Husband and I are in our early 30s so we had been living on our own for awhile by then and had most of our household essentials already. We registered for some splurge household items (le creuset, dyson, etc) as well as items we needed to replace (glassware, cooking utensils, placemats, pots and pans) that were on the lower end (under $50) to give people price options.

We did end up mostly with cash gifts since it’s the norm with our circle of family/friends.

Did you list all of these registries on your website just as separate links or were you able to display them all in the same page?

Yes! That’s my problem. We don’t already currently live together so it’s hard because we need like everything basically. It’s just difficult to put everything together when you feel like you need everything.

Yes! Okay that makes sense. I definitely need to be looking for the big staple items because we don’t currently live together. Do you think that we could ask for furniture like bed frames or headboards or sofas?

Yeah, part of me wants to put a lot more emphasis on cash gifts because I feel like I’m able to do a lot more with that in terms of getting everything I want. I just don’t know how to suggest that over other tangible items.

I used The Knot for my website, and I was able to import the registries into the website so items appeared from both on the webpage. If you clicked on the item, it would take you to the item on my registry in the story's webpage.

In my area, cash gifts for weddings are more common. Typically, the physical gifts are bought for the shower. We've already lived together for awhile, so we primarily used the cash to pay off a car loan and then put the rest in our "future down payment" fund.

Zola allows you to do cash gift funds— some find this “rude” or “tacky” so it’s definitely a know your audience type of thing. However, cash gifts are common within our circles (and what we usually give as a wedding gift as well because well, it’s easier to wrap haha) so we didn’t feel bad about it. However, they do charge a cc fee (2.5% I believe) so some of our guests just cut us a check or gave us cash in a card instead.

I liked Zola because even when people purchase specific gifts for us, you decide when to have it shipped to you so you can actually convert the gift into Zola credits and use it towards other things instead. So we had someone buy us a dyson air purifier and we decided we wanted the more expensive one ($50 more) so we converted their gift to credits and applied it towards the purchase of the more expensive model.

I think furniture is fine, as long as you know you will have a place to store it in the meantime and are sure about what will fit in your future space. Sometimes it can be hard to guess on those things. I know Zola and some other registries have a "group gift" option. So if there's an item you think is too expensive, you can have a few people contribute!

Also I just learned that neither Lowes or Home Depot has a registry anymore, so I'll be doing Amazon for tools lol

Haha I know what you mean! I would focus on kitchen items as that’s really the more expensive items. Don’t forget the fine china and serve ware items like dishes, bowls and platters! Bed bath and beyond had great items. We even added fun items like an ice cream maker Smiley smile you could always add bedsheets since those are expensive too, but again, just depends if you know what size bed you’re going to get. Most bedroom and bathroom items I feel are more personal, so those are items we will just buy ourselves. Also because I’m not sure what we will need and how much space we’ll have. Good luck!

You could do Macy’s for some nice stuff. Depends on your crowd.

We registered at lots of places. We have some older people in our family, so I wanted to make some physical places like Target available to them- though with Covid it didn't matter. People seemed to love ordering from Amazon so I would recommend them. Wayfair has pros and cons- their site is very glitchy (a few missing gifts, problems with payment and thank you lists), but they do have a designated registry team who are super helpful!
