What to wear? Engagement photo outfits.

Sheryl, on April 16, 2021 at 6:11 PM Posted in Parties and Events 1 9
My fiance and I are getting our engagement photos taken in May at a local state park. I am struggling with what to wear? We aren't super dressy people to begin with, but I feel like I need to find something better than jeans and a top. Any advice/pics of outfits you and your fiance have worn

They typically say to not wear anything too busy or distracting, and to not be too matchy matchy. but to definitely ‘match’ each other. You also want to dress as yourselves, but if you want to be more dressy, typically solid colors and pastels work the best, but I’ve also seen some gorgeous burnt orange dresses and guys in white T-shirts and jeans photos that I absolutely love. I think it also depends a lot on location. If you’re doing a photo shoot in the city, you could definitely dress more vibrant, but if you’re doing more rustic photos, more muted colors would probably fit the scene best

How do you feel about a casual dress and flats? With your FH in casual pants and a polo or casual button-down?

PS...I have seen a lot of men wear jeans for engagement pictures. Plenty of women too!

Thanks Stephanie! That's what I was thinking. But ya know we are very causal and more jeans and t-shirts kinda people. I appreciate the input!

I’m a jeans and t shirt person too, I feel your pain! I ended up buying a skirt and wearing a T-shirt and my FH wore shorts and a button up with rolled. It was dressy enough to show it was for an occasion but not too dressy that it was completely uncomfortable (minus the Florida heat lol). What to wear? Engagement photo outfits. 2

If you aren't dressy people, then don't go outside your comfort zone. Stick to what you normally wear. You can go nicer than jeans (business casual that is flattering on you) without going super dressy. You don't have to match or coordinate either. A large number of photography blogs and Instagram posts for wedding photographers I've seen have said the same thing.

Just look in your closet and see what you like best that fits the places you're going.

You don't have to dress up!

I don't have my engagement photos to share yet, but we just wore what we were comfortable in (granted we got our pics done outside in the snow near the ocean so it was FREEZING)

I wore Jeans and a sweater I already owned with booties and he wore jeans, a flannel he already owned and sneakers! We both wanted to be comfortable, so we wore what we were comfortable in.

My FH and I did two outfits - first both in jeans and him in a (new) t-shirt and me in a chiffon top, second him in jeans and a polo and I changed into a semi-casual dress. We wanted to look like us, which def isn’t super formal!
