Future Mrs.Randolph
Dedicated February 2022

What is/will be your new last name

Future Mrs.Randolph, on September 15, 2020 at 3:20 PM Posted in Married Life 0 31

Is your new name going to be:

Choice #1: First Name/Middle Name/ Spouse's Last Name

Choice #2: First Name/Maiden Name/ Spouse's Last name

Choice #3: First Name/ Middle Name/ Maiden-Last Name

OR

are you not changing your last name at all

I've been thinking about it for awhile and as much as excited as I am to be marrying my FH I'm a little divided about Choice #1 and Choice#2 since I've had my last name and middle name for so long it's a little bittersweet to part with it either one.

I did option 3 and added a hyphen. I did not want to completely drop my name, but I also wanted my wife's last name. We both changed our last names to my last name - her last name.

I’m doing First Middle-Maiden Last. FH has a long last name, which I want to take, but I don't want to get rid of mine completely and my middle name is a family name

I contemplated changing my middle name to my maiden name and taking my fiancé’s last name; but I think I am just going to keep my name the way it is.

That is one of the reasons for why I wanting to keep my middle name. My middle name came from my aunt (mom's sis) who passed away at a young age so I really don't want to part with that

    Option 1.

I was very reluctant to give up my last name at first, but have come around to the idea, especially since I would like the same last name as our kids.

It also helped that my FH let me make my own choice. At first he really wanted me to change my last name, but then it became more of a 'whatever makes you happy' conversation. Without that pressure, I felt better about it.

So I am either going to do the following:

    FirstName MiddleName MaidenAsSecondMiddle SpouseLastName

    or

FirstName MiddleName MaidenLastName SpouseLastName (double barreled last name, no hyphen)

I didn't know I felt so strongly, but I really do not want to give up my last name. I am the oldest child and my dad never had any sons, so I felt like I had to honor him someway, even though he wanted me to do the traditional route of taking FH's last name. It is also important to FH that I take his name, and even though he would never stop me from doing what I wanted, I decided I wanted to still be Mr. and Mrs. FHLastName.

    Me neither.
But I may consider #2 in the future. Who knows.

I'll be changing my last name. Tbh, I'm not real attached to my current last name and I'm tired of having to spell it for everyone haha

I’ve gone back and forth, but I decided to add my maiden name as a second middle name. I’m the last one in my grandfather’s branch of the family tree with the last name, and despite no one ever pronouncing it right I don’t want to just give it up. I don’t want to hyphen or have two last names because we both have 8 letter last names.

I went back and forth but ultimately decided on option 1. I don't have a super strong attachment to my maiden name.

I'm going with option 1. Although I love my last name, and it will always still be apart of me, I feel like I'm ready to take my FH's last name and start our own little family.

I'm doing first name/ middle name/ maiden and spouses last but with no hyphen. I would drop my maiden name but my son from a previous relationship (I wasn't married) has my last name so I could never get rid of it.
