What is a typical budget?

So I have no idea what a normal/typical budget is! I know the national average is around $35,000 but I am from Mississippi and getting married in a college town. Most things are pretty reasonably priced here, so I think $35,000 is a bit much for my budget. What is a realistic small southern town...

I'm getting married in Vicksburg, and our budget is going to be right around $20,000. Although there are some things we're having to sacrifice/pinch pennies on, we can get most everything we want/need for that for about 200 guests without having to stress over money. I'm not sure what town you're in, but I know Oxford would have been more expensive.

It all depends on how you spend and how many people you are having.

Our initial budget was over 2 times the national average. And then we adjusted it up a couple of times. We live in the northeast U.S. and hosted 225 guests. I our area/social circle guest hosting is the #1 priority. I.e. we offered more food during the cocktail hour, then I've seen at a couple of weddings, which were out of our area.

I'm in MS and my budget is 5500. However we are DIY a lot of stuff and our guest list is 75, and we are using the beach so that's free. I guess it just depends on guest and what work you will be contracting out

Don't go off the typical budget. Go off of YOUR budget. Figure out how much you and FH can afford and whether any family members are contributing and then go from there.

The biggest expense is definitely the price per head for food and drink. Everything else can vary greatly.

There is no such thing as a "typical budget". It all depends on how extravagant you are wanting to get, how many guests are coming, your location, food, booze, etc. FH and I have a guest list of 175 (55 more than I wanted lol), have a beautiful venue (which I paid entirely too much for, but it was my one splurge because I'm slightly obsessed with it), phenomenal photographer (okay, I lied I splurged on my photographer as well) and DJ, photobooth, and excellent food. We have a budget of around $20,000. In order to keep it at this price, I am doing a lot of DIY projects, my mother (who is a florist) is doing the flowers, and we will also be making most of our appetizers and desserts (no I did not appoint this job to anyone. FMIL and FH's aunt love doing this kind of stuff and pretty much begged me to let them do it). I think if you are willing to sacrifice certain things you can easily have a wedding for under $35,000.

In addition to money coming with strings, you also shouldn't count on any money that isn't cash in hand. There are posts all the time on the forums from couples who's parents where hit by hard times and can't contribute, or who didn't realize how expensive photography is when they offered to pay for it, or who are just not reliable and now that more than deposits are due, won't pay up.

I would plan for the wedding you can afford, and only "spend" FH's parents' money on extras when it is in hand.

I never understand this question. What can you afford? How much can you save before the wedding? Do you already have money to put down for deposits? Budget questions can't be answered by strangers.

You create your own budget. Try to do it without a loan. We have a wedding credit card, but I could pay it off now if I wanted to. What I'm trying to say is, don't go in debt over your wedding

We have about 80 guests, and are spending around 32k. Yes, I'm going all out because I want it to be the most fabulous day of my life. Also, I am located in Northern VA (DC Metropolitan area) where everything is freaking expensive. So see what you can afford, and go with what you can afford and still host well.

Gosh, I'm way down then cause our budget is $2,500 and we have 40-50 guests.

So far on our rings, my dress, shoes, accessories, his tux and accessories, the flower girl (our daughter) and ring bearer (our son) outfits, flower basket and petals, ring pillow, the venue, the officiant, the photographer, roughly 40% of the decorations have been bought and we've spent $687 so far.

We have a lot of kids attending and our focus is on the party, the dancing... So no fancy dinners for us. Simple easy finger foods. Grab a bite and boogie down!

The biggest chunk seems it's going to be the dj. As thrifty as I may be, I have no coupons/sales or connections with any good dj's. The lowest quoted was $650 and that was a very basic no thrills package.
