Wedding Registry Help

Angie, on September 8, 2019 at 6:49 PM Posted in Registry 0 4
Hi all! I'm slowly working on our registry. Since we've been living together for over 5 years already there isn't a lot of the typical household items that we need. I'm mostly adding the nicer appliances (Kitchenaid stand mixer, keurig, etc) that we don't have and then upgrading some items we already own. We ultimately would prefer cash gifts, but of course for the shower we need to have a registry and also for those select few who prefer purchasing a gift for the wedding. Right now I have a registry on Bed, Bath, & Beyond and Amazon.

My main questions are:

Did you actually find it helpful to go in person to the stores you chose?

What are your favorite places to have a registry for? And why?

We chose Target and Crate & Barrel for our registries. We felt it was best to see what we could in stores to do better comparison shopping. Some things, like knives and cookware, you just need to shop to get a feel for the item itself.

Also, some stores like C&B and Bed Bath & Beyond give gifts to those who register in-stores.

Amazon if by far my favorite registry place. We only registered there and Bed Bath & Beyond because BB&B has a brick and mortar store for those who want to go into a store, and they had a few things that Amazon didn't have (or they had better prices). My FH and I have also lived together for over 5 years, so our registry includes things I've wanted but haven't needed enough to buy myself (cordless vacuum, hardwood floor cleaner, etc.) and big upgrades (a new knife set and heavy duty pots and pans). What sold up on Amazon is that you can set a dollar amount where any gift over that amount can be contributed toward instead of having to be purchased outright. We set our amount at $50, so for example, for the $400 pots and pans set we want, someone can spend the $400 and buy it, or multiple people can contribute any amount (even under $50) toward it. We then go into the registry and apply the money, and once we hit the amount, the gift is shipped to us. If we don't hit it, we can pay the remainder, or get the amount contributed in Amazon giftcards. It was a huge win for us.

Did you actually find it helpful to go in person to the stores you chose? We only did an Amazon registry, so no. It was really easy to do and we had a ton of options. I didn't have a huge interest in going into stores only because I had heard horror stories of it taking 3+ hours and not being helpful.

What are your favorite places to have a registry for? And why? Amazon was super nice! We had some traditional registry items, but were also able to have things like light fixtures, door knobs, etc. since we are renovating our home, camping accessories, a golf bag for my husband, etc. I was happy with their service and the 20% discount you get at the end was awesome since we just ended up buying the remainder of the items off our registry.

We did amazon and target. We’re in the same boat. Living together for a while so we upgraded our current housing stuff through target and registered for mote fun stuff through amazon like camping and other random stuff. The nice thing about a lot of places, amazon included offer a discount for stuff that’s still on your registry after your wedding for a while so that’s a bonus.
