Wedding Photo Album help

Lacy, on June 14, 2011 at 1:46 PM Posted in Married Life 1 20

I'm getting back over 700 photos from our photographer and I don't know what kind of photo album to get. Also, I'm planning on picking out 100 or so to make copies of (I'm getting all pictures on a disc -- high res and I get complete rights to reprint my pictures) to put in smaller albums for some of the family, so I need help figuring out smaller albums for them as well. Any ideas?

Sorry I don't have any advice. But this is a good question because I plan on doing the same thing.

You can buy 12"x12" scrapbooks now that are 3-ringed like a notebook & then buy the plastic pages that hold pictures on them, anywhere from 4 pictures to 6 to 8 pictures, depending on size. This may be an option for you... check Michael's!

Snapfish and Shutterfly have some really great options to create wedding albums you also have the option to add little quotes and such.

@Baby, I've seen those, but I wasn't sure if the sheets were good for protecting the pictures.

@Brian, I'll think about doing that, but with 700 pictures, that might be a little much. Is there any particular kind of album (acid-free?) that I need to get?

Try www.mixbook.com you can create photobooks. they have lots of different sizes and even offer bulk pricing. they have a design tool where you can pick out a template or create your own, and drag/drop your photos into the spaces. I made a photobook out of my engagement photos. it turned out really well!

i've heard others reccommend www.picaboo.com they are a similar site but they offere a wider range of products (even flush mount albums)

    Parent Album

I just asked my mom which was her favorites.

    Her book went more.

    1 - full Bride shot

2 & 3 - Bride with Mom, Bride with Family

    4 & 5 - Bride with siblings

    6 & 7 - Altar shots -

    B&G and Family shots

    8 & 9 - First dance B&G, daddy daughter

10 - One more favorite picture of Bride and Groom

at least that is how my little parent album was made.

With www.mixbook.com you can make an album that looks like a scrapbook. I have made some cute albums off this of baby pictures, and Father's Day weekend trip.

They are... I use them for recipe cards that we make at recipe swaps (I like to scrapbook) & they work great! Very sturdy & they showcase it all so nicely Smiley smile

So I should pick about 100 or so for an album and then get a photo box for the others? That makes sense.

We make photo storybooks often. This is an excellent option! Everyone always loves them. They are great at telling the entire wedding story and very impressive. More than one picture fits on the pages so you can get more together. They come in different sizes and as someone said before the smaller one make excellent gifts for parents or grandparents! Whether you do them yourself or get a vendor I think this a great idea to consider for your pics.

We have a couple pics posted on our site as well.

If your photographer is sending you 700 proofs (4x6), they'll probably come in some kind of proof box. I agree with Brian...I deliver 500-600 images to my clients, and they choose anywhere between 50-80 for the final album (depending on the size and number of pages). A good rule of thumb I tell clients is to have about 2.5 images per page for a good design (so a 20 page album would have 50 images). Take the best of the best and create a digital album through one of the online services. Many of them even have wedding templates you can make use of.

Oh, I remember that day (or couple of months) well! I too got back billions of photos and had to narrow it down. Yikes! What I finally ended up doing was going through them all and writing down the ones that initially jumped out at me (I've found overanalysis about which photos are the best usually leads me astray...the ones I am originally drawn to are the ones that I always end up loving long-term). I had my hubbie do the same, we merged our lists, and whala. Finally... cute album! Best of luck with the whole process... it's fun, and crazy, and tough, but I promise it doesn't last forever.

Many vendors (like me, actually!) offer discounts on exact duplicate albums/books for parents, so that's worth looking into!

Feel free to check us out and send us a line if you have any other questions--we offer professional design, and quite a few different printing/book options!

As a professional wedding album designer, I agree that the two hardest parts to designing a custom wedding album are 1) narrowing down the pictures to a reasonable number and 2) choosing which ones to feature on the page, and in which order.

I normally use between 2 and 3 images per page, on average... so a 40 page album would have only 120 images at most.

I start the album with a title page featuring the best shot of the bride and groom together, followed by a two page spread of individual shots of each. Next comes the bride getting ready, the groom getting ready, and so on...

Oh, and the print-to-bind companies I would highly recommend are: Zookbinders, Black River Imaging, Smilebooks, and nationsPhotoLab. Hope that helps! Susan Gallagher
