Vowing to a step-son

Katherine, on June 26, 2017 at 2:21 PM Posted in Married Life 0 13

My fiance's son is 11, I plan on making vows to him as well as my FH, but I want to also give him something but he's not a girl so jewelry doesnt make sense to me! Anyone have any ideas!? This picture I posted is FSS and I!

What does he like? Does he have a favorite movie/cartoon character?

As for gifts, is he a fan of Legos? If not, does he play sports with equipment? You could get him something along those lines.

I'm not sure of your relationship with him obviously, but could you make your vows to FH to love/protect/support your stepson and then include him in a unity ceremony instead? I've seen kids get their own color of sand or their own candle.

I am also gaining a step son and step daughter. We are not giving them anything during the ceremony but giving them both season passes to an amusement park as a gift during the RD. I think it's perfectly fine to say vows to your step son. It always irks me when people bring up the mom. Like what does she have to do with anything? I'm saying "I promise to love and guide Colin and Kiley through their lives" so not at them but they are a huge part of our day. I'm not only becoming a wife. I'm also becoming a mom. Step sons Mom will be at our wedding and thinks is awesome that her son is gaining another mom. Just more people that love her child.

The 4 of us are doing a sand ceremony together.

I am all for the vows! My parents did that with me (my step dad and bio mom) and it's still something I treasure.

I'm all for adding stepson into vows. My friends husband did that with her daughter and it was beautiful. Cry fest all around.

Well, it all depends on his style and interests. I have a young cousin (7) who is a trendy/hipster bow tie and suspender kind of kid. So we got him a pocket watch engraved on the front with his initials and on the back with a message from us.

(Little did I know but he's always wanted one!)

What about cufflinks? He's a little young, but you can find French cuff shirts in boys sizes too. One day hopefully he'll get married too and maybe he could wear them again!

This is actually something my FH has brought up to me in regards to my son. I'm not going to lie, I totally cried and fell even more in love with him.

I do like the cuddling idea. FH and my son actually want matching cufflinks for the wedding.

I think a watch or a nice necklace would be a good gift. Smiley smile

He may not be quite old enough but my FSS is 16 and he collects pocket knives. I bought him one made of wood with his initials engraved into it as we have a lot of wood incorporated into the wedding and his dad's ring has a small wood strip inlay, too. ETA words.

ETA? What does that mean, I know what it normally means (expected time of arrival) but not in this case?
