Virtual Bridal Shower

I guess the guests in Wisconsin would actually have a little shindig and you would video call in and maybe open gifts they sent you beforehand. I think it can work, but I also worry if people would take an invite to this seriously. Take me for example, I hate how we have moved from a physical interaction society to a virtual interaction society. I personally may frown upon an invite where I don't get to see the bride in person. Again, I do think you may be able to pull it off though. Maybe put a story on the back of the invite explaining why the shower is set up this way. Most people may already understand but I think it is nice to see why the bride can't physically attend.

I think that's a great idea! We are also having a destination wedding, so I am having my engagement party in Wisconsin since the Bridal Shower is in Montana to try to make it fair.

View Quoted Comment Me too! We originally weren't going to have a shower at all because the guest list is so small and we are getting married during our move across country. So etiquette says I shouldn't have had one. I wrote a story on the back of the shower invites that basically mentioned military orders, and a dw during our relocation. I think it helps people understand why we are having a short engagement and a quick dw wedding. Sometimes we have to put things into perspective for guests. My hope is that people understand. I think this would help you out as well! I would be much more likely to attend if I saw a situation that called for a virtual shower.

Could you have two showers? One in Wisconsin and one in Montana.

My husbands family did a virtual baby shower for his sister recently! Their family is spread all over the country. They used FB live and in the invite just said make sure to order/mail gifts by about a week before to ensure they’re there in time. It was really cute and a lot of fun. My MIL organized it with her BF to have him decorate and everything. 10/10 recommend!

When people are in 2 or more distant locations, it is usual to have one or more people volunteer to have 2 or 3 separate showers. Not one big one. Only the bride travels to each party. Sometimes when there are lots of people in one location, people still split into 2-3 groups. Like friends may do one, family another. Or older family and family friends may do one, and peers, similar age relatives and friends to bride's age do another. More, smaller showers gives the option of being small enough for one or both to be held in a home or free or inexpensive venue, without high minimum costs for catering or a restaurant venue. I have been to two tries at showers with a video link. Dismal. New would go to one again. Smaller, you have a more reasonable number of gifts to open, and chatting with each giver is nice. So much easier to sit through and enjoy 15 to 25 presents, around 75 minutes, rather than 30-50 presents, which is mind numbing. I had 4 separate showers in different areas. Two with full buffet meals, 2 cookout and picnic buffet. None of the hostesses chipped in more than $50 for everything for a small group. I have been in wedding parties, or MOB plus a few friends or BM, where 4 people had to chip in $400-500 each because a venue fee was needed, or else there was a $30 meal fee or $20 desserts fee, and $30 more for drinks, per person. I thought about that, but with us already flying to Wisconsin in May for the engagement party the cost is too much. I did however, win a free venue for my bridal shower at a wedding fair here in Montana.

I like the idea of the smaller showers, it seems a lot less complicated and inexpensive. Our only concern is blowing our budget out of the water over travel costs for bridal showers :/
