twa Photography in Chicago

Meghan, on June 16, 2020 at 9:17 PM Posted in Illinois Planning 0 4
Hi all! I’ve researched 20 photographers on our receptions must use vendor list for a downtown Chicago wedding in 2021. While most photographers were +$5500 for two photographers 8 hours, TWA Photography is offering $3300. Has anyone used them for their wedding?? Reviews?? Seems too good to be true and don’t want to find out the catch on my wedding day!
Thanks!!

I've heard good and bad things about twa. We originally hired a photographer through george street photo & video company similar to twa where they have multiple photographers and locations and you get to look at their portfolios and choose who you would want to shoot your wedding. The packages seem great and affordable which is why we chose them in the first place. But then when we had our engagement photos done, they were way below our expectations. The quality was just not as great as the photos in their portfolio. The photographer was great and really nice, but the photos were underwhelming. A lot of the photos our eyes were closed or we were in awkward positions. Out of 200+ photos, we only liked maybe 25. So you basically get what you pay for. For months, I kept regretting our decision of hiring them thinking our wedding photos are going to look so bad, but then I finally decided to research more photographers and found one that was within the same budget and had amazing work. She was actually passionate about photography and took the time to make sure all my concerns and wants were heard. Best decision we've made! I don't think we'll ever hire a photographer from a big business again, I'd rather support a small business that has quality work. There's actually a ton of photographers in the suburbs that are affordable!

We didn’t book TWA, but I’m pretty sure when I read through some of their reviews you HAVE to buy an album, which is super expensive on top of the standard fee. If you do go with them or another photographer, be sure to read the fine print around albums. Also determine what other things you might want out of the photographer, for us, it was important to be able to have the rights to our photos and the ability to download them all and be able to share and print them ourselves.

We ended up going with Red Barn in Des Plaines, we liked the packages they had to offer and also liked that they’re independent. There’s so many options in Chicago at reasonable price points that I’m sure you’ll find the one!

Thank you for confirming! I agree and ultimately booked directly with a photographer rather than a company. Best advice!!

I know this is way late but I'm glad you didn't go with them. I interviewed them and ultimately just didn't dig their style of photography. I also heard bad things. Such as you might pick a photographer and then another one shows up to your big day. Hope your pics turned out lovely with the photographer you booked.
