Splitting cost for Bach party?

Clair, on February 11, 2020 at 2:39 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 7

So me and my bridesmaids (7of us) are planning for the bachelorette party. We are now booking our place, which requires a 50 percent deposit upon booking. Which is $400.

My sister is paying the deposit then says we can then just pay her. But when she explained and said we would then split $400 by 6 because she paid the deposit. But if we split it by 6 and pay to her... she get the full $400 back when it should be like $343 if you are including her portion being paid for deposit. Because if she gets the $400 back then that means she actually didn’t contribute her cut. Am I losing my mind? I know my math isn’t my strong point. Or maybe that’s some crazy etiquette that I’m unaware of? Lol

No, you're right. If you all paid her that, she wouldn't be contributing.

It's nice she offered to put her card down for the deposit, but she should still pay. So if the total is $800, split that among the 7 of you. So $115 per person. If she puts her card down for the deposit, I assume they will charge the remaining $400 on her card as well. So everyone pays her $115 then she pays her own portion of $115. If she is trying to profit from this and not pay her portion, you should just offer to put it on your card. I can only assume the $400 deposit will go towards the final $800 cost.

We used the splitwise app for settling up charges at the end of my bachelorette. She can input her 400 dollars she spent and you guys can all input what money you spent as well. You can decide to divide it evenly or however you want. It made life sooooo much easier!!!

If you want to do it without an app, you would split the 400 seven ways.

You’re right. It should be $400 divided by 7. So everyone contributes $57something... so I’d round up to $58.

Sounds like she just wants to get out of paying her share since she’s the one who put the card down.... but she’ll also get cash back or points on her credit card for having made the payment herself lol so don’t feel so bad

You’re correct, your sister is wrong. It’s $400 divided by 7 which has her paying for her portion. I agree with Neeva. Use the splitwise app for the entire trip. Very helpful!

Is it possible she was splitting it 6 ways so that you don’t have to pay? I’ve heard of some people having the bridesmaids pay for the bride on the bachelorette party. I would just clarify with her.
