We really want to have a soft serve ice cream machine at our wedding reception. Willing to purchase a used machine for a discounted price, but prefer to rent one. Does anyone know of a vendor to hire in Kansas who rents out these machines? Or are there auctions or facilities where used, soft serve ice cream machines can be purchased?

That sounds like a fun option for the wedding. It makes me wonder how many people can get servings without a refill.
Have you checked on restaurant surplus websites? Maybe check with a company that supplies ice cream for the places that have soft-serve machines. Ask if the manager can supply that info.
