So much at once!

Akirah, on July 10, 2019 at 9:05 PM Posted in Married Life 0 42
FH and I are closing on a house next week. We’re getting married on October 12th. We weren’t planning to buy a house quite yet, but fell in love with a place and took the plunge. It’s all so exciting...but the stress and anxiety are incredibly overwhelming. These are such special moments for FH, but I sometimes get so overwhelmed that I struggle to really feel grateful.

Has anyone else purchased a house while engaged? How did you cope? Or are we only ones bananas enough to do such a thing??? 🤯🤯🤯

We considered it and then changed our minds as we began planning and looking at expenses. It was a lot to take on. Kudos to you for being able to handle it all! You rock.

I’m glad we didn’t after all when reflecting. My fh dad ended up moving and is letting us rent his house. I think it will give us a good idea of what we want moving forward in that process.

We are in this same position but we looked at the house we thought we loved and realized that the photos were extremely deceiving ha! we keep looking but I'd rather wait until next summer to move. If we purchased a house now closing date would literally be the week of the wedding... noooo thanks! lol

You’ve got this girl!! It is a lot all at once but you can do it! Keep organized, lots of to do lists! Things will fall into place and you will be so happy! Just remember to take care of yourself while everything is so hectic; get lots of rest, plan healthy meals, drink lots of water

Not while engaged, but two weeks after our wedding we put money down to have a house built, so 6 months after our wedding we bought it and moved in. A week after our wedding we also bought a car. It’s overwhelming, try to take it easy and take time to decompress.

My future husband and I are just about to start the process of getting a house within the next month or two and are getting married this March. We want to be in a house before we get married.

After we got engaged, we prioritized getting a house first before starting to plan for the wedding. I would rather have the bulk of our savings be used as a down payment. We got engaged on September 2017, got the house on May 2018. Started wedding planning around September/October of last year.

We are planning to start looking after we get married. I wish we could have gotten the house first.

Date twin! We actually bought our house a few months before getting engaged. It is definitely a very stressful time. Doing all the minor updates we wanted along with moving was exhausting. I can't imagine planning a wedding at the same time. Good luck to you guys!

We are in the process of buying a property now and closing is scheduled 3 weeks from now and we are getting married 10/5 so I get it. It is STRESSFUL worrying about and paying for so many things at the same time. We were also not going to buy anything until after the wedding but an opportunity came up that we couldn't pass up so we're juggling both. It's absolutely worth it though. Congratulations on your house and wedding!

We are getting married in February of next year and want to buy a house in March. We decided on holding off on the house until after the wedding and honeymoon so that we won't feel tight on money. Also, I wanted the focus to be on our wedding instead of the house.

Congrats on your house! That is very exciting!
This is not so much about buying a house, but about stressful / exciting experiences while wedding planning. We went through major milestones in the last months, the biggest being moving in together & merging our finances. Together with wedding planning & signing some big contracts on the business side, it has been a lot. It forced us to have some important & tough conversations, while leaving much less time for doing fun, relaxing & bonding things together.
What I realized from all of it is that I need to be more gentle with myself & with FH & to let go of perfection & having complete control over every situation that I usually have lol (still work in progress). And I also realized that I couldn’t have gone through all this & come stronger together on the other end, with anybody else but my FH. And that makes me appreciate him, our relationship & my life, like crazy 🤗
Good luck with closing & wedding planning!

Hope all goes smoothly for you! I was thinking about trading in for a new car and starting to look at houses, but with our wedding coming up I think those things are best saved for 2020 Smiley smile I also think it'll be nice to save for our down payment together as a married couple. In lieu of gifts we're asking for donations to a down payment fund on Zola as well!

Same!! Totally was not expecting to buy a house but the perfect property popped up. We close TOMORROW!!!!! My motto is to just stay chill. The house buying process has been terrible for us and took 2 weeks longer than expected but we are finally here and moving in on Saturday. It will all be worth it! Oh and 52 more days til the wedding Smiley smile

Buying a house is super exciting! Congratulations! We bought a house a couple years ago, before we got engaged but we had already been talking about getting married. We could have done the wedding first I guess, but it would have cut into our down payment and we both viewed a house as more important, especially with two kids and no space! It’s one more piece of your combined future coming together, and in our area if you find a house you love and hesitate it’s sold! Good luck! All the stress will be worth it!

That's so exciting! Congrats! We rent an apartment right now and also don't have near enough money for a down payment on a house. He's still in school and I'm studying to become a CPA, so unfortunately house hunting has to be on the back burner at least until I finally complete all the CPA exams (2 more left, fingers crossed I get them passed by December!). Anyway, we are asking out landlord about a 2 year lease (so our rent doesn't increase every year) and will decide (as well as save) in those two years where we would like to live and whether we want to go ahead and build or just buy. We currently live in TN and FH wants to move out of TN, so we've got lots of researching to do on where we would like to go before buying!
