Shower when the Bride Cannot Attend

Jacqueline, on March 12, 2024 at 12:36 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 6
My sister is getting married in November. She lives far away from home, where family, childhood friends and bridesmaids are. She won’t be able to come home to attend a shower. We would still like to have one for her. She was very involved in my shower and the showers of many of her friends. Any suggestions for how to do this without turning off guests? I feel like a zoom shower would have been a faux pas pre-Covid but is more acceptable now. Will guests follow instructions to have gifts sent directly to the bride?

I know someone who had a Zoom baby shower just last summer, so I don't think a virtual bridal shower would be too weird. But the other option would be you and bridesmaids all travel to the city where she lives.

Was the Zoom shower at someone’s house with a laptop hooked up to a tv? The bridesmaids will be traveling to the brides area for the wedding. Traveling there for the shower too isnt feasible unfortunately.

Everyone was at their own computers, I don't think we used a TV. Everyone sent their gifts beforehand, then the couple made a PowerPoint thanking everyone and showing who gifted what. Another option for you is having the shower at a time when the bride can travel. My shower was just 2 weeks before my wedding, which I know isn't the traditional time frame, but that's the only time the hosts were able to do it

If hosted at a home with a smart TV, the TV may either be connected as a display for the laptop (with just a cable) or possibly operate on its own for zoom, if it has a camera. It might help to have a technician to help set it up (or search the internet for the details or ask at an electronics store).

This remote could work decently if the friends and family know each other pretty well -- so no one is there by herself. If some sent gifts ahead, there could be opening of gifts by the bride and other gifts opened at the host home.

I do have an attachable computer camera that would be perfect for this. I forgot I had it. Bringing in a professional is a good idea. I can see there being a technology fail.

All of the guests will know multiple people there. It’ll be nice to get together, even if my sister can’t join in person.
