Same sex marriage officiant.

Britany, on June 22, 2020 at 10:48 PM Posted in Tennessee Planning 0 11
Are there any officiants that perform same sex marriages in the Knoxville, Tn area. It seems like everyone I have spoken to is unavailable or that they are unable to marry my partner and I due to licensing issues.

Idk about vendors in your area, but we're thinking of asking a friend to get ordained so we don't have to go on that awkward search.

Licensing issues? Sounds like a crock. Anyway, I don’t have any specific recommendations, but I would try Thumbtack!

Sorry for the second comment, but also any vendors here on WeddingWire must be LGBTQ friendly, otherwise they’re not allowed to be featured on the site.

Really? I have ran into multiple officiants that will not marry us because we are a same sex couple.

Here on WeddingWire? I would definitely report them. That’s not acceptable.

Hey girly have you considered asking a good friend or family member? My uncle is marrying us because me and my FH have different religions both of which are pretty strict. It’s usually not too hard to get the certification you need! It can also give someone you love an extra special role for your big day!

What Caytlyn said. If someone is able to legally officiate a marriage, then they can officiate a marriage. Whether that marriage is a same-sex couple or different-sex couple, there is no difference in license. If these people are saying they cannot perform your wedding and it seems like it is because you are a same-sex couple, I would report them to WeddingWire, as they are not following the guidelines. In terms of finding someone, do you have any other friends who have gotten married recently who reccomend someone? We had a relative get ordained online and perform our ceremony, so you can check if your state/county allows for online ordinations and ask a close friend or family member to do it.

Unfortunately in the state of Tennessee they no longer allow people who have been certified online to perform a wedding. I will definitely report the ones who have stated they are unable to marry us due to the fact that we are same-sex.

See if Colleen at Magnolia Matrimonies has your date available. I've booked her for my wedding because she was highly recommended to me by 25+ people when I was looking for someone liberal/progressive in the area willing to do a non-religious ceremony. I know she does same-sex weddings.

She's been really great to work with so far.
