Rehearsal dinner?

Emily, on July 24, 2019 at 10:46 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 6
Do you have to have a rehearsal dinner; what are they really meant for? Or is it ok to have a rehearsal dinner a day or two BEFORE the actual rehearsal? I have my venue booked the night before my wedding from 6-9. During that time we will have the actual rehearsal but then afterwards my coworkers and I have to use the remaining time to decorate.
Note- we did hire a professional event rental company but there are a handful of decorations that we having put up ourselves because either the company didn’t have what I was wanting or it was just cheaper for me to buy/make on my own.

We decided on a rehearsal lunch the afternoon before the rehearsal. The purpose is to feed the participants of your wedding and thank them for being a part of your special day. Our rehearsal lunch is saving us over $1k for doing it during lunch. It’s close to the hotel blocks and venue so super convenient. We tried getting out of it, so many options, and landed on an awesome low key bbq place that’s delish! Good luck!

Then idea is to provide a meal for those who took the time to come rehearse for your ceremony. Could you do dinner before the rehearsal? A different day wouldn’t quite be the same and would require your friends and family to take even more time out of their lives for your wedding.

I thought about having the rehearsal dinner before but my fiancé’s Family is having a family reunion that afternoon which is actually why we are having our wedding the following day since they had already made plans to come into town.
My future mother in law is hosting the reunion next year so would it be acceptable to ask her if instead of a reunion lunch have a rehearsal lunch and invite my family and bridal party? Still have their whole family present but just allow me to invite people.

Yeah the whole point of the dinner is to thank people for coming to the rehearsal since it's an extra event and takes up more of their time. Even if it's something like ordering pizzas to the venue so you guys can all eat after rehearsing and then decorate or whatever. It's kind of missing the point to do it before the actual rehearsal.

My fiancé’s Family is having a family reunion that afternoon. It’s usually from 1-4 and I think they are planning on getting a small banquet room at a restaurant for it so I could possibly invite my family and our bridal party to the same place at 4. How long does a rehearsal dinner last? Our venue will be across town (about 20 min) from where the family reunion will take place so....
    family reunion from 1-4
    rehearsal dinner from 4-530
then make it to the actual rehearsal at 6.

Would that work or should I have the dinner at a closer restaurant to the venue but then we would only have an hour for the dinner. Would that be enough time?
