Rehearsal Dinner

Veronica, on June 27, 2019 at 3:06 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 23
I am starting to get worried. When we intitally booked our venue for our rehearsal dinner we thought we would have about 35 people. Our venue requires a minimum of 30 people so we thought we would be fine. We have since had several people say they can't attend or aren't bringing plus ones so now we only have 28 people. I spoke with the venue a while ago about this and they said it was totally fine. I called about a month and a half ago to make some changes to the menu, but the woman was very short with me and told me she would reach back out to me in two weeks. Our wedding rehearsal is three weeks from tomorrow and I haven't heard anything back from the venue. I wanted to make some changes because we aren't going to have as many people nor are we going to be serving alcohol anymore because most of the people don't drink that will be attending. I also want to confirm what is in the ice cream parfait because if there are strawberries in it I have to pick something else because I am allergic. I wanted to send out invites to our guests for the rehearsal but I haven't because I am worried we are going to have to change plans last minute since I haven't heard back. My fiance's sister who is also a bridesmaid thinks I should give them until next week because we will then be in the same month as our wedding. I am worried about waiting to contact them next week especially since next week.is Fourth of July. Any advice? Should I look for a backup venue just in case? We gave them a $100 deposit.

They should have gotten back to you. I'd call again. Especially because you have an allergy you need to know to make changes now vs later.

I would call again and hopefully speak to someone different or the same person you talked to in the first place who was more helpful.

I agree, you should try reaching out again. Being 2 people under shouldn't be a big deal. At most, the venue just charges you that amount anyway so you pay for 2 phantom plates. Sometimes they will let you take that money and add it to an upgrade on something else.

Unfortunately it is a mom and pop shop and the wife handles everything for events. She had been so nice previously so her change in attitude makes no sense to me.

Oh no! Can you maybe go in person and talk to her? Sometimes face to face works out better.

Definitely call again. You've given her plenty of time to get back with you and you're starting to cut it close.

We live 4 hours away from where our wedding is so that isn't an option.

I'd call again and keep calling until someone answers. and maybe call some other venues as a backup. On one hand, I can understand them having minimums to meet, but she told you it was okay so she shouldn't be short/rude to you. It seems like her communication is really lacking.

If you live close, I would go in person! People tend to act bolder over the phone since they can't see you, so seeing you may make her be on her best behavior!

I totally understand that they have a minimum which is why I reached out to them previously to see if having less people would be a problem and she said no.

We live 4 hours away. We are going to be in town Saturday morning, but they don't open until 5 and my fiance has a 5 o'clock flight to Alaska about 2 hours away.

Aw man! yeah that is definitely not an option! If you feel it is right to call now, call now! As they say (much to my chagrin when I worked in the service industry) "the customer is always right" haha! Even if she gets snippy, you are the client and she should provide the service promised. I do know with the 4th next week they will probably be extremely busy too.

That is what I thought if it was the problem that we have less people, but she said it was okay. She started getting an attitude when I told her we don't want to serve alcohol anymore probably because alcohol tends to bring in more money.

I just get the feeling that they don't really want to work with us. She didn't really want to talk to me once I told her we didn't want to serve alcohol anymore. After that she basically cut me off and said she'd call back in two weeks and it's been longer than two weeks. I called before Memorial Day. I also wasn't that impressed when we met the husband. He was trying to talk us out of using the large banquet room. He insisted on showing us their outside patio. I tried telling him we wanted to use the banquet room because we wanted a private dinner and he was just like it's going to be summer and people like the outdoors so you should really consider the patio which wouldn't be private at all.

I called and got her voicemail. It is making me almost sick that this is happening.

She apologized for making me worry. She apparently calls everyone at the first of the month that their event is scheduled for.

Ugh that is so frustrating when people try to push what you don't want on you! I am glad to see in the comments above that you were able to get a hold of her! Stand your ground!
