Rehearsal dinner options

Laura, on January 14, 2020 at 7:40 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 10
We are scrambling to find a rehearsal dinner location for 60 guests with wedding date less than 12 weeks away within our budget.
Though FH doesn’t like the idea of this one restaurant, 1) because there’s a guarantee it won’t be a fully private space since we have such a large guest list and 2) he wanted the RD spot to be within walking distance of our “Friday night welcome” bar hop/walkabout (it would be about a 5-10 min drive from the potential restaurant). To me, it seems easiest at this point, and best bang for our buck (I do not want to plan details of hosting/catering the RD! Since I have done mostly DIY for the wedding itself already!) We are waiting for one more possible venue to get back to us, but IF they’re too expensive, we will likely have to go with the restaurant. So if we have to go with the restaurant, is Anything I can say to convince him that it will all be okay, no matter where the RD is??

Is there a reason it needs to be within walking distance of the bar? If he doesn't like the restaurant and there aren't a ton of options then I would tell him he either has to deal with the restaurant or deal with finding some place further from the bar. He honestly shouldn't be drinking a ton the night before the wedding anyways neither should anyone else. That just spells for a disaster.

    Does he have other suggestions?

Just so people aren’t feeling like they are driving everywhere, it would encourage more time to visit with guests. Rehearsal/hotel is about 25 minutes from any restaurants/downtown area and then if we have people drive again even 10 minutes on a highway to downtown before heading back the 25 min just seemed like a lot to ask.

Is it at all possible to change the location of the "Friday Night Welcome" bar? Either moving it closer to the rehearsal dinner location or closer to the hotel where the guests are staying (assuming they're all/majority are staying in the same place)? Otherwise, I would see if your FH has any other suggestions or places he's interested in for the RD. There may be another location that is slightly out of budget that is willing to work with you to make changes to lower the price slightly (ex: family style dining vs. a menu to choose from, only serving certain types of alcohol, swapping an expensive appetizer/dessert for a more cost friendly option)

Could you have your rehearsal at your venue?

No the cost to rent the place for dinner is the price of a whole catered meal itself unfortunately

No we chose this downtown spot because there’s sentimental value and it’s really the only area close to any RD spots and where some guests will be staying for the weekend. Some will stay close to venue (close family and wedding party) but most will be near that downtown spot.

Unfortunately We have tried working that option with many spots but most have either set minimums or if they are lower, it’s because the venue itself doesn’t fit our total number of guests. 🙇🏻‍♀️

I would skip the bar then and try to find somewhere closer to the venue. Guests really don't need to drink the night before.
