Registry

Just wondering when y’all began creating your registries. The checklist is telling me to do it now but I’m still 8 months out so I’m hesitant to gather a bunch of stuff that may be discontinued or something by the time people actually see my registry.

You can update the registry as you go along! We used myregistry.com and then did registries from amazon, wayfair and bed, bath, and beyond. Each supplier contacted us with a text or email when an item became unavailable. I’d recommend doing it as soon as possible because people will start buying gifts when they receive invites, especially those who cannot attend. It’s also nice to have a registry in place as you think of items you’d like to add. I kept seeing buzzfeed lists like “20 items you should have in your home today” or “45 ways to upgrade your space for under $50” I got so many amazing gifts I would have never thought of!

Agreed. Colab with your FH on this, too. It'll make everything so much easier.

I went ahead and did mine at 6 months because it is time consuming and provided entertainment while on medical leave lol. Luckily, you can see what is no longer in stock and can adjust as you go which is helpful!

I would do it now because then people can buy gifts whenever it works for them (big sales, etc). I had a short engagement so when I made mine may not help you

I started mine 10 months before. We went to a registry event at Crate and Barrel and they said just don't register for seasonal items (like Christmas decor now if you are getting married in June). Only a few of my items ended up being discontinued and I was able to replace it with something similar. They also suggested checking in on your registry about once a month to make sure everything is still available.

I recommend starting it fairly early and adding to it as you think of things. It’s honestly way more difficult than it sounds to sit down and just register for everything all at once lol. I definitely recommend just starting a registry whenever and then you can add to it as you go alone.

I agree with PPs! Starting about 6 months out is a good idea so you're not overwhelmed. Check the list every week or so and remove/replace discontinued items!

It took us about 3 weeks to set it up because we both work full time. I would go ahead and do it. We did ours about 10 months out. We registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Amazon. We started that Amazon specifically for anything in Bed Bath and Beyond that got discontinued. It really doesn't take that much time to update it. Plus people won't be looking at it until you tell them where you are registered. My bridal shower was also early because I love in Upstate New York and if we did it 1 to 2 months before the wedding like most people, it was going to be difficult with winter weather to travel. So I'm glad we did it early so it was done and I didn't have to worry about getting it set up when my mother and MIL came to me and said the bridal shower is in 3 months!

I also enjoyed starting it early, because even though I made a list of what I wanted, I didn't remember everything. Starting it early allowed me time to remember to add something before guests started looking and buying things.

Our big day is in July and ours is done. I thought the same thing you did about being too early. It was fun to do so it was nice to get it out of the way. Plus I already thought of s few items to add on later. We did Bed, Bsth, and Beyond and I made a myregistry.com one tol to add stuff from Kohl's. I might add stuff from Amazon yet too.
