Registry shipping address & moving?

Catherine, on February 10, 2021 at 2:35 PM Posted in Registry 0 5
Hi all!

Wondering if anyone has experience with moving in the middle of the planning process and having the shipping address on your registry change several times?
My fiancé and I currently both own homes in Florida. Within the next 2-3 months, I hope to sell my house and move into his house. Then at the end of July 2021, we will be moving TOGETHER to Colorado. We don’t have a Colorado address yet as we haven’t purchased a new home there, and even if we did, wouldn’t want things shipped to an unoccupied house with no one to bring things inside.
Our wedding is at the end of September, and trying to figure out the logistics of a shipping address on our registry is making my head spin a bit. We can set it my fiancé’s house for now, but then what happens if someone buys a gift really close to the date we move and it gets shipped to the old house after we leave? We could also theoretically use a friend or family member to have it shipped there, but then I would feel like I’m inconveniencing people by basically using their house as a storage unit, and then we’d still have to pay to ship the stuff from there to our new house.
Zola has a delayed shipment option where you can ask purchases not to be shipped until a certain date, but we set up our website on The Knot and already had that printed on our save the dates, so I don’t want to redo the website just because of the registry.
Any thoughts, or am I way overthinking this?

While possible, I highly doubt anyone will buy a gift for you in July for September. The only tricky situation I could think of here is if your bridal shower is planned for right before or right after you move and someone wants to ship you a gift. I would do as you said and set it as your fiance's address for now and switch it a week or so before you move.

The 3 places I registered with (Bed, Bath, Beyond; Macy's, William-Sonoma) all have an option to put in an address of where to ship gifts in the future. So even if you don't have a Colorado address yet, once you find a house and are ready for gifts to be sent there, you can change the registry to ship to the new address. BBB and Macy's both have you specify the date you want gifts to be shipped to a future address. William-Sonoma, it just looks like you can select a separate address for after the event. And BBB also has an option where when guests buy something off your registry, instead of the item being shipped to you, you would essentially receive a gift card for the amount of purchase. So then you could delay having gifts shipped to you till you're ready!

I'm sure other stores offer features like this so it's worth it to look into what the policies are like for the stores you want to register with.

My fiancé and I are graduating in May and have no clue where we will be living, so we decided to have all the gifts shipped to my parents' house. They will hold on to the gifts until we have our new address

Some registries have the option to put if you’re moving so I think you can somehow keep it updated. My fiancé and I are looking to move and have no clue where yet so we put my parents address just to make it easier.

My registry was through Zola and you could choose per item where it ships once it is purchased you get a notification asking when and where you want it sent.
