Registry Items

Hello all,

What are five musts that you recommend registering for any of your wedding events? Why?

Fiancé and I are in job transitions, do not live together (live in different states currently, but within two hours of each other), and our plan for where we will move to next summer is up in the air based on various factors. If it were up to us, we would just welcome cash for a newlywed fun or honeymoon contributions as we are trying to avoid clutter and wasting money on things we won’t use immediately. However, we realize that we must register for stuff for the showers and it is poor etiquette to just ask for money and we plan to select a handful of things from a few stores that we like.

Any gadgets or appliances that were totally worth it for you?

    1. Dishes! I love to document my cooking and wanted cool plates and bowls to display my creations. It’s also nice when everything matches for when we host friends

    2. Air fryer. Just do it! You’ll thank me later

    3. Upgraded bedding! Silk pillowcases are the best and have really helped reduce frizz and keep the definition my curls

    4. Knife set (debateble if you are traditional since it’s considered bad luck

    5. Upgraded coffeemaker/French press/ tea steeper. Any upgraded caffeine delivery was important for us. We got really cool Teavana tea steeper’s, a new French press and an espresso maker

For me my most wanted were new pots and pans, a carpet steamer, new dishes, new bedding, and new silverware

Daughter was thrilled with: high quality bath towels & bedding (and she got a LOT, probably 10-12 sets of towels); an AWESOME vacuum cleaner; a KitchenAid (the one thing I didn't register for 32 years ago and still regret...); good quality every day flatware; AWESOME knives; a good quality cast iron skillet; and, she was really happy to register for good china (a Mikasa pattern, not super fancy). Yes, it was a pain to move all of it 1500 miles, 6 months after the wedding, but daughter expects to use all of it for the rest of their lives or as long as it lasts, and none of it was something they'd spend money on in the near future.

If you'd prefer cash, I'd do a really small physical gift registry (if you plan on having a bridal shower). If you don't want a shower, don't register at all and people will take the hint. For your shower, put around 1 gift per person invited with options under $20, under $50 and under $100 (then a few splurge items). I'd just register for nice things you wouldn't buy yourself. We are really happy we have a good knife set, a good pots & pans set, nice plates & glasses, and nice silverware. We had a few fun things on our registry like camping accessories & dog accessories too.
