Registry ... honeymoon funds

Katie, on November 4, 2019 at 8:17 PM Posted in Registry 0 9
I am struggling! My fiancé and I are looking into a honeymoon registry in place of actual gifts. (We are planning to go to Ireland.) I am struggling to just ask my guests for money. Thoughts on how to go about this? Suggestions? Sites you have used?

I used Zola and created a combination of money funds, charity funds, gift cards and gifts people can choose from. Since it's not just asking for money, it's a honeymoon fund plus other options I think it's not tacky. Also, I put that contributing to the money fund was more important but people can keep on scrolling if they want.

I did travelersjoy.com and target.com in case they would rather give something else!

Just don't register. If anyone asks what you want, just say, "We really can't have physical gifts, because we are moving to Ireland." At that point, people will give you cash--without the administrative fees a honeymoon fund would charge.

Skip the registry and people will gift cash without you asking for it. And you’ll actually get the entire gift without a third party taking a portion of it.

Don't ask...no struggle, no regrets. Most guests will give a gift of their choosing -- for MANY, without any prompting, that will be cash/checks. Some of those same guests might might find your "asking" for gifts/funds offensive; so just avoid that awkwardness and don't ask.

I used Zola specifically because you can add a Honeymoon fund to your registry. And you can set it up so people can contribute.

You're struggling because it's rude to ask for money. Just don't register and people will gift you cash or checks. If anyone asks about a registry it's perfectly appropriate to say "oh, we are saving for our honeymoon/house downpayment/new car/etc."

Also, honeyfunds take a portion of the gift or charge guests a fee to give you money, you also aren't really buying the couple an "experience" - the service just cuts you a check later (minus fees). They really make no sense and are tacky.

I personally haven't done this but have attended a few weddings where they had their registry set up on their wedding website but it gave the option for guests to pick different areas to donate money towards ( food, activities, hotel, transportation, etc )
