Registry Alternatives

Texasdiosa, on January 4, 2018 at 12:01 PM Posted in Registry 0 23
Hi y'all! My FH and I don't exactly need anything for our home. We have more than enough plate sets and glasses and towels, etc. I was curious to see what other things people register for, or any alternatives to doing a traditional registry.

Someone is going to mention a honeyfund, and then this thread is going to blow up about people arguing about whether honey funds are rude or not.

Some people will say "register for upgrades - you can always upgrade your towels."

Someone else will say "don't register at all then."

I'm following because I'm curious to see if there will be any responses different from what I listed.

Good luck OP - it's ultimately you and your Fah's decision on what you guys want to do!

Are you having any sort of shower? Otherwise you don't really need a registry, and people will most likely just gift you cash.

We didn’t have a shower, so we just didn’t register and all but 3 couples(out of 130 guests) gave us cash/checks.

Here are a bunch of ideas:

    new kitchen knife set

    knife sharpener

    upgraded kitchen appliances

    new pillows

    new bed sheets

    picture frames

    home decor items

    google home

    bluetooth speakers

    vacuum

    laundry hamper

    luggage set

    board games

    hobby related items

Try and think outside the box from normal Kitchen and bath items. Also, you can probably keep your registry small and most people will give you cash instead. Unless you are having a shower, then you will need to have a bigger registry. Do not use a honeyfund or any such alternative registry it is rude to request money and they also take a percentage of the funds too.

One of my friends told me they just put few items on there regiatry so people will just give money. Just select a few things you guys may like or need.. like no more than 10 items on each of about 3 registries. It worked really well for her wedding and most f her guests just gave cash plus she received everything on her list.

OMG I just found out you can do a honeymoon registry through Westin hotels. Where guests can buy you things to do in Hawaii (for example snorkeling, luaus, room upgrades). Me and my fiancé signed up for the Westin in Maui honeymoon registry and it's so awesome because not everyone wants plates and houseware. I'd rather have memories!

Smiley laugh Smiley xd At this, haha Smiley smile

Just have a small registry or no registry at all and people will likely give you cash so you can put it towards whatever you'd like.

Might have been me. We registered at a liquor store that specializes in wine. Our wine storage is fully stocked with so many varieties!

Miss Manners suggested very recently that guests of couples who live together and already have their home set up, seriously consider not buying gifts at all, rather than the couple thinking of creative ways to extract money from their guests.

Oooh I think it was you! I remember seeing this website before a long time ago (and thought it was the best idea ever) and then you reminded me! We figure most of our guests are going to give us booze or money anyway though haha.

We're doing our roomblock with Westin, and they're seriously the best. They're giving us SPG points for every person who books using the room block, and giving everyone a free drink ticket that they can use towards a welcome party

How about putting some charity donations? You can suggest on your wedding website!
Also— a monthly wine subscription sounds awesomeeee.

Asking or lavish honeymoon upgrades or experiences just feels wrong to me. Those are birthday/anniversary gifts, not gifts given to couples celebrating the milestone of matrimony.

We have everything we need, so we're not registering. We're also not having a shower.

In addition to upgrades, we also registered for some "fun" items, or nice-to-haves that we haven't bought for ourselves:
    - scratch-off world travel map
    - NFL lawn gnomes (NY Giants and NE Patriots, our teams!)
    - pop-up tent
    - coolers
    - wine rack
    - cookbooks
    - various size storage totes

Some of our favorite non-traditional registry items were- a bocce ball set, retro usb game controllers, and Wii motes. Also, if you don't have one, an Instant Pot! Oh, and we love our nice knives, pots and pans, and Roomba!
