NYE Wedding!

Courtney, on October 29, 2018 at 11:56 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 35

I've heard that getting married on New Year's Eve is more common in other countries, but I've never heard of anyone having one! How about you? Anyone you know get married on NYE? Are you or did you get married on 12/31?

----------------------------------

I will confess that some of the reason we picked NYE is so that everyone would come and PARTY!! What do YOU and your SO do on NYE?

I’ve never been to a wedding on NYE but I’d like to! We often think about going out but everything is so expensive! A wedding would be a great way to celebrate the New Year in a classy way. 🎉

A NYE wedding is so romantic is sets the tone for everyone to fall in love that year😊. Downside you have to book venues/vendors early because many people throw NYE parties.

I love the idea of a NYE wedding, I would totally attend! Some years we go to parties, some years we spend at home.

If it’s local I would definitely be there! Traveling could be difficult for some though, especially if you’re in an area that has snow, plus some may have just traveled for Christmas.. Check with your VIPs and if they’re good with it , then go for it!! That would be such a fun wedding to plan!

My fiancé’s brother had his wedding on NYE! This was primarily due to work reasons and being able to take time off (he has an extremely difficult job that rarely gives him time off except for the holidays every other year). It was an AMAZING time and it was great since a lot of family and friends already had that time off anyway for the holidays to spend at the wedding and long afterwards. So much fun and memorable to welcome in the new year with family and friends! The wedding was held at a boutique hotel in downtown Austin, and so we had the perfect view to watch as the fireworks went off (and snow actually fell this NYE, which is rare for Austin!). We had our rooms booked in the same hotel, and so getting trashed and partying it up at the wedding and NYE was safe since we all got to crash in our rooms just a short walk away Smiley winking that was by far the best NYE ever!

However, my sister-in-law did complain to me how the availability of vendors was pretty difficult given the timing of the wedding being on the holidays...prices to hire were either obscenely high or just not available at all. So her choices were pretty slim unless she planned way in advance and waited (they were engaged for 3 years), because she knew for sure she wanted her wedding set on NYE. Their choice of ceremony sites were even compromised due to it being on NYE, so that was an additional huge stressor for her.

My SO and I go to an annual friend reunion party on NYE, it’s been tradition for over 10 years and I look forward to it more than Christmas. So I would be peeved if I was invited to a wedding on NYE but my case is very rare lol! Anyway, if that’s what you want to do then you should definitely do it! But like others have mentioned, be prepared for difficulty finding vendors.

We've been engaged for 3 years now, and finding venues was the thing we had the most issue with. Many places throw their own parties and won't even discuss that date.

However, we found a hotel that was under construction (finished now!) that was not only willing, but excited to book...AND they gave us the pre-construction price!! It's was a little stressful not being able to SEE it, but we were finally able to get a tour earlier this month and it is beautiful.

The hotel does everything but the flowers and cake/cupcakes, so that's all we're really dealing with and it's going to be Sam's club all the way.

Since we're getting married in SW Florida it seems most people from up north are looking forward to getting away from the cold and into the sun. Smiley smile

This was a major factor as well.

I REALLY wanted an 11:30 PM ceremony where we ended up kissing at midnight, but our families would have fallen asleep for sure!!

More often than not we spend it at home because tickets to anything interesting are so expensive AND crowded!

That is very similar to our story! Getting time off of work is hard for FH, so doing it during the holidays was a plus, and most everyone will get the day after off for traveling or whatever.

Luckily any issue I've had with vendors was not a big deal in the long run as the hotel will do dinner and the DJ/ photobooth people/ HMU artist were happy to book!

A lot of how common it is depends on the weather where you live. If there is already snow on the ground, and at least fifty percent of the time it snows during the day 0n the 30th or 31st, people think about driving and coming home taking 2-3 x as long, and driving on slick even if plowed roads with a huge number of drinkers on the road for the return trip. . Imagine paying top price for venue and such, and having 62 guests call in the last 3 days to tell you the weather forecast is bad, sorry. A waste of 62x $100? To me, NYE weddings are for all locals guest and families, or people who live where more than 2 inches of snow on Dec 31 is rare. I have been to a few, near NNH home, and 2 in Boston where no one traveled more than 7 miles, and most walked to and from the wedding. A blast. But snowy. And in Boston, one in balmy 30° weather, people took time before to walk down to the Common and Public Gardens, lit for the holidays with on street NYE events, musicians and such., or to Copley square, very festive. ( party between the two.). But the other about 5° out, people on the road no later than 10pm, as temp dropped, and even walking hard. So hard to plan ahead. The other time was in clear and dry Seattle, and great. Everyone arrived on time, stayed super late. I think if you adjust the number of NYE weddings to exclude the coldest and snowiest ⅓ of the country, they would likely compare to most similar countries.

I think when you hold a NYE wedding, it should be held to a higher standard. I would expect top notch food. full open bar, and just a higher level of hosting in general. Most people give up their plans to attend a NYE wedding, so you should provide them a similar experience IMO.

What kind of food, booze, entertainment, etc are you having?

YES!!! lol, I think flying out of state would kill the whole "let's keep NYE affordable" idea. I'll just push local friends to 1) get married 2) choose NYE. Ha ha ha.

One of my cousin's got married on New Year's Eve. I wasn't able to attend though since it was out of state and me and FH's first anniversary was 3 days later. Obviously I didn't want to risk missing that. It was her second marriage and I'd been to the first wedding so I didn't feel as bad about not going (plus my parents weren't going either and I was part of their invite).
