Nwr: Sharing a bathroom with so

Catherine, on July 1, 2019 at 10:19 PM Posted in Married Life 0 57

So I’ll warn you in advance that this is waaaay TMI, but I really wanted to find out if other people have the same problem that I do: I hate pooping when FH is around! I know, I know, everybody poops. But some people (like FH) somehow manage to do their business while leaving the bathroom smelling as fresh as a warm spring day. I am not one of those people. Nope, I’m more of what you could call a “heavy hitter” in the stink department. Always have been. An open window or fan helps a little bit, but there’s really NO way to hide what happened in there after I’m done.

It was easy enough to avoid going in FH’s presence when we started dating, but after we got engaged and moved in together, I knew that gig was up. So the first time I saw him heading to the bathroom right after I blew it up, I warned him “um, you probably don’t want to go in there.” He just laughed and went right in anyways. And then immediately came running back out. He was like “wow, you weren’t kidding!” He wasn’t mean about it or anything (we were both kind of laughing), but I was still blushing like crazy. Since then I’ve mostly tried to go when he’s not around, but he’s had a few more unfortunate encounters with the aftermath.

Anyways, I was curious about how many other ladies are big stinkers like me and how y’all deal with it around your SO.

You'll eventually learn to get over it lol
Honestly, FH and I have lived together since 3months dating, almost to 5 years now! We will literally stand in the bathroom with one another and have a conversation with whomever is pooping 😂
Otherwise, we make fun of eachother and continue with our day haha!

If you're that worried, get poop spray. It seriously works. You spray it in the toilet before you go and it covers the smell.... And/or light matches afterwards! My grandma uses to carry matches in her purse incase she pooped in public 🤦 light it, let it get burning for like 10 seconds, blow it out and wave it around the bathroom. Sometimes need to do a couple. But it works!

I second this! We have 2.5 baths so if it’s bad I use the downstairs bathroom.

Light a match after you finish. It really does work.

I still have the same problem we have been dating for almost 4 years and getting married next year we have been living together for a year. I am a very private person and have a lot of issues I usually take a shower after I go that way it gets rid of the stink and he doesn't go in there lol but im slowly growing confidence and just tell him not to go in that I just went also something that HELPS it doesn't get rid of it completely but it helps with the scent it's called vipoo you spray it in the toilet before you go

Omg this is me too!!! I'm so embarrassed still after 2 years living together. Honestly I probably make it into a bigger deal then it is to FH, but I'm super weird about it! Like a PP said, often if it's bad I'll take a shower after and by the time I'm done the smell is gone 😩👍😂 and I definitely try to go when he isn't around! We only have one bathroom right now (right off of our bedroom) so it really sucks! Cant wait to move and have more bathrooms 😂😂😂

Hahahahahaha....I don’t mean to laugh about this but I can so relate. My FH can go with no problems but I’m still “shy”. I also try to plan my bathrooms breaks when he isn’t around. My issue though isn’t due to smell, my issue is due to the noises and the amount toilet paper needed to clean up. I prefer to go before a shower. I guess what I’m saying is...if I had your issue and had a way of masking the smell with a match or air freshener, I would take it over my issue. We all have to go and we need to get over it, I get it. I’ve been with my FH for 2 years and lived with him for a year. I remember laughing hysterically when he said I’m the girl that never craps. Then he mentioned how he hasn’t smelled anything or even knows when I go. I’ve hid it that well. Good luck to you!

Girl get Poo-pourri, I swear it’s life changing! I take it every time we travel. They sell it all over, Bed Bath Beyond, Target, CVS, etc. you just spray 3-5 spritzs into the water before you go, and voila nothing but a pleasant smell 👌🏼

At first I was a little shy about it. FH also stinks up the bathroom, so I guess that's a good thing in this case. We've been living together for about 5 years now in a 1 bed/1 bath apartment. After a few months, it just became a joking warning to not go in there. As you said, everyone poops 🤷‍♀️.

OMG this made me laugh lol.... maybe have some candles on while you’re doing the business and then spray very heavily?? Lol.. im not as heavier as he is so he always goes to the opposite bathroom... plus since I already know how I could die if I walk in after I stay away from that bathroom lol

I totally feel your pain! I used to never be able to do #2 anywhere but my own home. It’s gotten a lot better in recent years, but I’m still weird about it. Thankfully, FH and I each have our own designated #2 bathroom and neither of them are the master bathroom. The master is strictly for #1 only.

But I absolutely recommend Poo-pourri. That stuff really works! We take it on vacation and it even makes sharing small cruise cabins (with even smaller bathrooms) bearable!

Ahah my friend is his neighbor and we didn't know til way late into dating. I joked like man if I knew she was your neighbor earlier I would always just go poop at her house ahah. But like other PPs said it's just something you get over ahah.

This!!! It seriously works. Watch the video, you spray once or twice in the bowl before you go. 👍

This is great and so true! I have always been shy about this topic. I lived with an ex for 4 years and somehow managed to avoid this topic, showering after and sometimes literally driving to my mom’s house! However, FH broke the ice pretty quickly when after two months of dating I was constipated and instead of seeing me suffer (it was all probably due to me being afraid to go at his house) he secretly “drugged my drink” with something that MADE me go! I still joke about the drugging but looking back it was really sweet and oddly made us much closer much faster! He’s still a little too open with this and sometimes I’m like TMI but I’m more comfortable with him than anyone else. It may have helped when he said “get over it, I’ll wipe your butt when we’re old!” Ummm...thanks???

I always hated doing that or farting in front of my man. I was (and still sort of am) afraid of being made fun of about it (in a joking way not mean) and being embarrassed. I know everyone does it but it's still something I find awkward to do around other people. Lol

Do an “emergency flush” about halfway then again when you’re done. Light a match and/or febreeze or use the poop spray mentioned in another comment. Whenever my FW is in the bathroom for a while I send her funny poop 💩 messages or memes 🤣

LOL! Girl I relate! My husband and I are over it now, he also smells so when one of us uses the bathroom we just use the other one. We have two bathrooms in our house so if husband is home, I use the master bathroom since its less used than the regular guest one in our hallway. If I'm home alone, I'll likely use the hallway bathroom since its closer to everything. We try to be curtious of each other but ultimately thats part of the human body and you cannot control it!

I feel you on the awkwardness. As others have posted, go with the Poo-Pourri. It definitely works. My friend has had it for years and when I travel with friends we always bring it lol

I was shy about bathroom habits before we got engaged as well. But now it’s like whatever, we both tell each other not to go in if it’s bad lol. I agree about the poo pourri, even Marshalls and TJ Maxx carry the non brand name versions of toilet sprays. Also helps if your bathroom actually has a fan in the ceiling, and just get some febreze or pleasant smelling spray to spritz in the room after you’re done 🤷🏼‍♀️ Everybody does it, and your chosen life partner should be the one person you can actually laugh about it with
