No one getting off the registry

Tanzie, on September 21, 2020 at 4:26 PM Posted in Registry 0 10

Ok so I just really wanna talk about it because talking to those around me I feel like I'm being ungrateful. Ok so everyone got upset when we said we weren't going to do a registry because we have what we need for the house. So being pressured into making one we did and added typical things that while we have them they could use updating (like the knife set we have is getting dull so a new set would be nice) we have less than a month until our wedding and no one has gotten anything off of the registry that we were pretty much forced into making. I don't know why I expected anyone to actually get us anything since they never do for birthday's or Christmas's (outside of our parents) last year no one even wished us happy birthdays... I don't know I guess I just hoped they would step up since it's such a big life event

I totally get it! I do think a lot of people wait until sooner to get gifts, so I wouldn't be too surprised if your registry is still full a couple months out. Most people will get your gift the week of the wedding!

Are guests aware of the registry via word of mouth? Many people don't shop until right before the shower or wedding.

As others have said, most people don't shop until last minute. When I had my shower, most people bought the gifts within 2 weeks of the shower itself. Also, for weddings, many people may be opting to bring cash or a check in a card instead of a physical gift. I know that is what is most common in my area. I have maybe ever seen like 5 physical gifts total at wedding gift/card tables, including 1 physical gift from my own wedding.

I only buy off registry’s for bridal showers. Not sure if you had one but maybe that’s why?

It's an online shower with no actual date for it and our wedding is less than a month away so just kinda bummed that no one has stepped up

I understand that you are bumped because it seems like no one is buying off it after guilting you into making it. However, I personally would not use the term "step up". No one has to get anything off the registry. I would just wait and see what happens after your wedding. Proper etiquette (at least in my family) is to bring a send a gift and/or bring a card (usually with money). So maybe you'll get something off your registry, maybe you won't.

Most people will do it much closer to the wedding. Since your shower is virtual, with no actual date, that's further reason nobody has bought anything. People rarely need a reason to be lazy or procrastinate. Myself included. For example, if you announced a shower with a date attached to it, you'd probably see a bunch of purchases from the registry the day before, even the day of that shower. Don't take it personally. It's just how humans operate. I'm sure those who encouraged you to make the registry did so because they want to buy you a gift. That doesn't mean they won't wait until the last minute to buy it.

We had people getting things not like the week of/ week after if they missed the ceremony. And like others have said, probably 20% of guests did a card and $$ situation.
That all said, this year has been....a lot. So try your best to cut people slack and think long-term. I told someone else - we have a close friend whose bar has been closed 6+ months. We've given about $500 over this time too help out and she wasn't about to make the wedding because travel was not in the cards. We get it. She's there for us for a lifetime, not one day and a gift card. Zoom out, and just do your best to be kind.

For whatever reason, people tend to shop last minute. It is unfortunate though that you didn't want to do one and now it seems like no one cares to get anything. I do hope you end up getting some stuff off your registry. If not, all in all, no harm no foul.

Same! I just made a post about this too but I have 2 weeks until the wedding and there has been one gift purchased... I told my mom about how weird it is the only think that’s been purchased off my registry is a vacuum, and she started giggling, so I found out it was her that got me that gifts. Which makes it even weirder!
