New Last Name/signature

Whitney, on March 28, 2018 at 2:11 PM Posted in Married Life 0 61
Anyone else have or currently having problems learning to write their new last name? I am getting married in June and I started practicing today just for kicks and it’s a disaster! I keep writing my maiden name from muscle memory. Then when I do write his last name it never looks the same twice!

I haven't tried this yet, but I'm 99.9% sure my new signature will be a complete hot mess!

Haha my signature is such a scribble anyway, I joke that it already says my future new last name

My current signature is completely unreadable, I think when my name changes what’ll happen is my first name will be a scribble and then my new last name will be legible because I’m not used to writing it, lol!

I don't see why you have to change your signature? Mine is just a squiggly line anyway, you can pretty much only make out the first letter of my first name, so I see no reason at all to try to change that.

My FH’s last name has 14 letters... my maiden name has 6! So I actually changed my own signature a while ago to just be my first name (it’s so unique as it is) and will just keep using that as my signature even when I change my name!

Practicing your new last name if you are choosing to change your last name is now my go to advice for women who are about to get married. My signature was two squiggles before, and now my first name is illegible like before but my last looks like a 2nd grader who just learned cursive.

I have a notebook where I'd practice (and still do!) my new name.

Yes! My maiden name has a lot of e's, m's, and n's so I can scribble it out no problem since I can just make bumps and call it done. His name has letters that require structure so I have to slow way down. Or I end up using his first letter then my usual squiggles lol

My signature (and probably some other people's) is completely legible, so it would be pretty obvious that XXXX is not YYYY. DH on the other hand would never need to change his - it's one letter and scribbles like your's lol.

After 6 months or so signing with my new name was natural, but I sign my name about 10-20 times a day for work.

I'm so sad about my signature. I swoop the L (for my middle initial) up so it can be the cross-line for the A in my last name and I can't do that with a G 😞

I wouldn't stress over how it looks. It does not have to be perfect, what matters is you get to marry the man of your dreams and that you are happy. The signature will come with time.

I tried it once and it was so weird. New name is actually much easier to write legibly than my current name but it just looks odd.
