Nerdy after party?

Natalie, on February 24, 2019 at 12:45 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 11
We want as much time with our guests as possible so we wanted to do after party except our family hates to dance And my FH and I are also pretty nerdy. We are in our early/mid 20s so we wanted to have a nerdy after party with board games, pool, cards, janga. Most of my friends are still in college and all of his friends work in a start up so they are all pretty nerdy too. We plan to do this around 11 with a midnight snack so most of the old people and kids will want to sleep so it only leaves us with the young adults.

Has anyone gone to a wedding who did this? How was it?
Do you guys think it’s a good idea? Or see anything that can go horribly wrong with that idea?

I would honestly go! That sounds like so much fun. I've never heard of anyone doing that before!

I don't think that board games and Jenga are "nerdy." Most people just refer to it as game night. Sounds like a great after party idea.

That’s a great idea!! I’d say go for it! My fiancé & I are pretty nerdy too, but since we want it all, we are thinking of just having some game tables set up at our reception, so the dancers can dance and the gamers can game, and we can do both (plus I wanna sleep sometime that night, some of our favorite games never end 😂)

I think that this is a great idea! I would offer the board games the whole time though, at least with them being available at a table for guests to play. My fiance and I are both huge nerds so our wedding will also be nerdy as well. We are planning on having a video gaming area, and a board game section set up, on top of having a DJ playing music all night. We both love dancing as well as gaming and our friends and some family members are the same, but we definitely wanted to have a DJ there all night because a good majority of our guests will be wanting to boogie all night! We thought that having the gaming there as well would be fun and enough to satisfy anyone who isn't into dancing as much. Smiley smile

I’m only saying it’s nerdy because when you think of an after party playing games doesn’t come to mind. So compared to a normal after party it’s pretty nerdy

We have lots of children coming to the wedding so I don’t think having board games with tiny pieces outside be a good idea. We plan to have the giant janga and maybe 2 other games for kids to play with during the reception and the venue is 100 acres of space so there so much to see and explore if kids get bored. I was thinking of having a gaming area too! But wasn’t sure if that was to much. We do plan to have some music to give people a chance to dance but most of our guests either don’t like dancing or are pretty awkward so I don’t see much dancing going on but we will try to get people to dance.

Whenever we have a house warming party or someone’s party we normally stay up super late playing boardgames. I’m scared if we have boardgames out during reception 1) I won’t have time to sit and play 2) I’m scared of kids losing parts or putting them in their mouth and choking which is why I think it’s best after most of the kids are gone and asleep. Our wedding is starting around 3 (and I love to sleep in) so I feel it’s not super late we might move the after party up a bit

I think this sounds like a lot of fun and it would be nice to do something low-key after the wedding vs. going out for more dancing. I would call it a game night after party.

    I would go.

We plan to do something after but it may just be going to the bars
