Name changes

So I waited a while to change my name and am currently trying to do it. Social security said I could mail my stuff into them so I did that and got a tracking number. But I’m having an issue with it actually being delivered sooo it’s kind of a headache currently. I’m hoping it eventually works! Our dmvs are open so that won’t be a problem I just need the social security card first.

View Quoted Comment Yes! I called and they told me exactly what to mail in and told me to get a tracking number. So I was like awesome and went to fedex and sent it off and got the number to track it. Well fedex couldn’t deliver it because the office is technically closed 😩 so I called and the lady was like yeah you did everything you were supposed to this is an issue we are having. So I wasted that $25 at fedex and went and picked it up and just sent it today thru the USPS with a tracking number in the hopes that if it’s undeliverable someone from social security can go pick it up from the post office. It’s been kind of a headache but I keep reminding myself that this is out of my control right now and everyone’s doing the best they can!

I mailed my application and marriage license to Social Security and goodness, they are taking their time! They didn’t require me to send an ID (which was FANTASTIC), and told me it would take about two weeks. It’s been almost a month and I still haven’t gotten my new card. I just got my license back saying it was being processed.

I'm honestly waiting until everything is open. Currently my state's DMV isn't open either so I didn't see the point. Plus my maiden name is on my passport and that's one more thing I don't feel like hanging right now haha.

This post has been very helpful! I have been stressing over the name change since the Social Security offices aren’t open. I had to make an online appointment with the DMV to renew my license & figured I’ll change my name when I’m there. I’m in Texas.

I'm in Texas too! I send all the stuff and mailed it, but they sent everything back with no information about why they sent it back! It's all very frustrating,
