Start with Social Security - you can't do anything else until you've got your new SS card.

    Then DL.

Once those two are done - credit cards, bank, student loans, work (paycheck needs to be in the correct name lol).

You'll always have things that you forget though - it's been 3 years and I sometimes still get stuff addressed to my maiden name

I think the only thing Becky didn't mention would be your passport. Those are barely being processed right now, but if you have any international travel planned, you'll need your passport to match your plane tickets. Also, check with your local SSA office, a lot of them are closed due to covid. If yours is, you have the option of doing it by mail, but you have to send them your original documents (marriage license and IDs). You have 2 years from the date of your wedding to change your name with SSA, although some states have shorter time frames for when you're supposed to update your license.

The sooner you obtain a social security card the better! Took me 7 weeks to receive mine in the mail and I live in NJ. And took me 3 hours at the DMV to update my last name on my license

This isn’t entirely true. I changed my name after being legally married for 3 years. There is no time frame that you have to change it by, but after two years I believe you have to include a form of ID.
