Name change - two middle names?

Liz W, on July 21, 2021 at 9:55 PM Posted in Married Life 1 7

Hello! I am trying to decide whether or not to change my name, but I don't want to give up my middle or maiden name because I have strong family ties with both. I don't want to hyphenate my last name because it is a mouthful and coming from the travel industry, it is a pain in the butt when issuing airline tickets.

My thought was to take my maiden name as a second middle name, but I'm wondering if there are any challenges you've encountered when filling out legal forms where it asks for a middle initial since there would be two middle initials. I'd love to hear about any experiences you have with two middle names! Pros, cons?

My wife has always had two middle names (not hyphenated) and she’s never had issues. If she’s only able to list one letter for any paperwork, she puts the first middle name initial. When I married my wife, I didn’t want to give up my two last names, so I’ve made them both my middle names (not hyphenated). I haven’t started updating my name but I can always repost if issues ensue… just to let you know.

I made my maiden name my second middle name and have had no issues. I call my first middle name my silent middle name now as I often use my maiden name when asked for a middle name or middle initial now, but my first middle name is still there and isn’t going anywhere. Lol!

I was given 2 middle names. It was only an issue taking standardized tests in school because they only had 1 initial box. Lol but it’s not an issue now. You can still put both initials in initial boxes for everything, even your bank cards.

I have 1 name, 1 middle name, 2 maiden name and I am going to just add my future husband surname into the list lol (It’s very common in my Country - Brazil to have multiple maiden/surname)

Thank you, everyone! This is very helpful and makes me feel much better about taking my maiden name as a second middle name. I was having a very hard time deciding what to do, but I think this is the best option. :-)
