10/11/2019 was amazing
The good- my church mentor surprised me while I was getting ready with her tiara that she wore for her wedding. My hair wasn’t styled for it but I wore it anyway... because why not?
We had been originally told we could not use the sound system or lights in the sanctuary because no one would be there to turn them on. It was $100 to commission a person to do it so we brought a Bluetooth speaker for music. My photographer happened to know how, though, so we were able to use both, it was great.
Brian started bawling as soon as he started saying his vows. Which caused everyone else to cry. There were no dry eyes in the sanctuary. It was the sweet spiritual ceremony I envisioned.
When we got to the reception they had allowed us to use their private party room and had set it up with a single red rose on each table. This was a complete surprise to us. We got to cake cut and have a first dance.
The bad- My MOH showed up late in a dress that is not the one she said she was wearing and it was completely inappropriate. Everyone who took pics were bound and determined to hide that fact as best they could. Several guests also showed up in casual clothes (jeans) although it was specified in their invites what the dress code was. My son ripped his tie off (literally) mid ceremony but I half expected it. Brian had forgotten to buy dress shoes luckily his shoes are black. My son refused to wear his.
The Ugly- My Grandma showed up completely schnockered and tried to pick a fight with my dad. My mom kindly asked her to leave.
In all, we were completely blessed with the day. The weather was great, everyone had a good time. My dad surprised us by keeping my kids the entire weekend so We were able to have a leisurely morning after and weekend.
Total cost for 28 guests- $1,427. We took the minimalist approach of less is more here.
