We originally had a big wedding planned pre-covid but, come January, things weren't looking great so we postponed our big ceremony to next year. We still needed to get legally married this year to get new passports and to refinance our house so we decided to have a tiny ceremony with just our parents to make the event feel more special than just signing a paper at the court house. We kept all our original vendors to since we already knew they were available for our original date. Our big wedding is all pastel colors and vintage styling, so for the small ceremony I wanted to try everything we wouldn't get to do for the big one. We went high desert bohemian for the style and very bold for the colors. I originally wanted greens for the colors but fell in love with a bright orange and red arrangement from pinterest.
My maid of honor was originally going to be in green but the dresses we were looking at were not available in her size in the small window we had to plan so she found a purple gown instead. I took a piece of the hem for the best man's pocket square since the one he had was green. We also added a touch of purple succulents to the flower arrangements.
I picked dress out from Azazie. My dress for the big party is short with a full skirt so I went with long and form fitting for this one. They weren't going to have time to make me custom sized dress but thankfully, the sample dress fit great.
Our photographer helped us find a location as we had too many places to choose from for the style we wanted. She suggested to is a stone cabin in the foothills of the Sandia mountains right next to the city. It provided the high desert look and was also a very easy walk for our parents from the parking area rather than a hike.
My biggest worry leading up to the day was the weather. Everyday we checked, the forecast was different. The predictions ranged from sunny to freezing with snow. We didn't have a back up plan for bad weather so we just hoped and prayed and brought umbrellas and blankets.
The actual day was gorgeous! Not a cloud in the sky, warm with a light breeze. The best weather we had had in weeks! My other big concern was hikers wandering around through the background but we didn't see anyone else until the very end of our photo session.
We did have a couple little hiccups during our portrait session. My veil caught on every bush in sight and tore very early on but it's hardly noticeable in the pictures. We also accidently spilled sparkling wine on my poor husband when moving the glass out if the way of a photo. It dried quickly and we washed his hands off with a bottle of water but it really was nothing compared to the joy of the day.
I told myself that no matter what happened, as long as we signed our license, the rest was all just icing on the cake. But seeing all my ideas and plans come together so beautifully made me so proud.
