Welcome to wedding wire these girls are amazing and will help you every step of the way. Congrats on your engagment. When you are ready start by setting a budget and do a guest list. These steps will help you plan your perfect day. next think of what type of wedding you want are you a country bride who wants to get married in a rustic barn ? or are you a modern bride that wants the New York Sky line? and what type of year? once you have an idea of what you want then start to research venues and I suggest setting up a meeting with 3. and then go from there after you secure a wedding venue then you have an offical date.

Thank you so much for that advice. As soon as my fiancé finishes school in January we are starting the planning process. So excited!

Set up a new email address for all of your wedding stuff. That way you keep it all in one place, plus, then if you go to any bridal shows, you aren't getting hundreds of messages at your "good" addresses. Decide what kind of feel you want as well (not just venue, but the vibe of the gathering/party) - we went southern garden party, some people go with dance party, some want low-key and casual. DIY costs more than it looks like - your time is worth something too. Get a planner (at least a Day of Coordinator (DOC)) - not having to worry about set-up, etc. will make your day SO much easier. Catering is necessary - even if it's BBQ or Italian - you don't want people getting sick because the people cooking didn't know what they were doing. Your FS should help you - that's their job. Your bridal party (should you choose to have one) is ONLY responsible for showing up on the day in question in the correct attire (and possibly at a rehearsal), not for planning your wedding/helping with DIY. Check with them before choosing attire - they have budgets too. Choose your bridal party 6-8 months in advance - relationships change - there are posts every week about how people asked too soon, and there is drama! If you send a save-the-date you have to send an invitation.

Thank you Becky for the advice. I saw that tip before about setting up an email for everything. I almost completely forgot about doing that.
