Jumping the broom? What to do with it after?

AQuixoticBride, on October 23, 2018 at 4:16 PM Posted in Married Life 0 21

I'm just curious...for those of you who jumped the broom during your wedding ceremony, what do you plan to do, or what did you do with the broom afterwards? Right now, I have our jump broom in our bedroom closet (basically to hide it from our cats) and it feels like it shouldn't be there.

Ideas welcome!

I'm going to get a shadow box. I don't know where I'll be displaying it though...maybe in our living room between a two scrolls I picked up at blacksonian. One is a Frederick Douglas writing...I forgot the other one! Need to get them framed too!

Would it be weird just to hang it on the wall? A shadow box seems like it would be big - it's so hard to figure out what to do with this stuff! Perhaps, I'll go peruse Michael's this weekend. Smiley smile

You can store it somewhere and pass it down to your kids or a younger sister. Maybe hang it on a wall with a picture of you guys on your wedding day above it.

I would totally hang it on the wall! Some religious traditions hang brooms, besoms, wedding brooms, etc. over the entrance to their home. The symbolism is to sweep away the negativity from entering your home. That's where I plan on putting mine once I move in with my FH. Smiley laugh

I love this! But I think the area over our front door is too narrow. Smiley sad I might still try!

I know this isn't a wedding broom, but the bristles don't have to be completely over the door, if it helps! Smiley smile

My understanding is that the Wedding Broom is hung above the threshhold (front entrance) inside the home symbolizing a Harmonious Union/Home. Mine is from a 2nd marriage, which although I had it annulled, we both still deeply treasure our Kinship/Friendship. Thus, I've cherished the broom & kept it as an heirloom for my Daughters. I carried mine all the way to Sweden for my eldest Daughter when she married; then brought it back home for my youngest (they're 11½ years apart) to utilize should she so desire, if/when she marries. My Daughters & I began the jump-the-broom tradition with us (they were 1½ & 13 years-old when I married & incorporated Our Folks tradition into my wedding). Hence its use & display have been tailored to fit our unique Family. 🧹I hope this proves helpful 🙏🏽Jumping the broom? What to do with it after? 2
