Jack and Jill gifts

Amber, on March 26, 2021 at 8:02 PM Posted in Registry 0 56
My fiance and I are having a jack and Jill party. We are selling tickets for it. I have a registry set up for family members that live far away. How would we word it in a way to inform that there is a registery but the ticket purchase is gift enough. We already live together and the registery only has a few items on it.

Interesting! That’s a new concept for me because I’ve never heard of tickets being sold for pre-wedding events. How is the ticket money used?

The ticket money is used to help with the cost of the honeymoon/wedding.

Inb4 people say this is tacky, it's a not-uncommon thing in Connecticut and Western Mass. Never been to one but they are done. OP I am guessing you're from this area, or parts of Canada?

I'd just have the registry. People will get you something if they really want to, otherwise they'll just buy a ticket and come for a good time!

Jack and Jills used to be pretty common in my area but I’ve never heard of a couple getting gifts at a Jack and Jill.

Exactly and I am not expecting gifts at the jack and Jill. I mainly have the registry and want to post it for the family that are unable to attend and want to contribute.

I wouldn’t post it anywhere. You can certainly let people know if they ask but I don’t think it’s necessary to let people know without being asked.

I'm very confused about this entire concept. Why would you have a registry for this event if you're charging entrance fees? This party sounds like a fundraiser for your wedding...I'm just confused. Is this instead of a shower?

This is a fundraiser event. I however have family members that live in other states that wouldn't be able to attend and I created the registery so if they want to they could contribute that way. I am not having a shower.

You're charging people to attend a party AND you're announcing what "optional" gifts you want? Because that is exactly what a registry is. If you have out of state guests that can't attend, why would they send you an additional gift on top of the wedding gift? Also, pre wedding parties are typically limited to local guests anyway.

This is all in very bad taste.

    Hi Willow,

I think you miss understand. I have family members that requested a registry. I don't want anybody to feel obligated to purchase a gift off of the registry. especially since it is a fundraiser event. A commenter up above suggested to not post it and only give information to those who request it which is what I have been planning to do.

Thank you for the advise as I know it is bad taste to ask for gifts and attend.

Just have the registry. Don't sell tickets. Have the wedding/honeymoon you can afford without your guests paying for it.

    I don't understand--you're throwing a fundraiser for your wedding?

I spent a good portion of my life in Mass and I don't know what this is

Why are you throwing a fundraiser for your wedding? This whole thing sounds highly inappropriate. Is this really a thing? If I were invited to this party and had to pay for a ticket, then consider that my entire wedding gift
