Insurance???

Halie, on January 13, 2020 at 9:55 PM Posted in Married Life 0 7
I may be in the wrong place but I have an odd question.

My husband and I got married not that long ago. I got put on his health insurance through his work recently. I haven't changed my last name yet and the papers just came in the mail but it has my married name on it not my maiden name could this cause any type of issue when going to the doctor or dentist since my licence and my insurance card don't match?

Yes your names need to match on your ID and insurance

I haven't updated my license yet and I have been to the doctors multiple times and never had an issue. I bought my marriage license with me and my social security card. I have updated my social security though. We moved recently so I was waiting to get my new license until after the move.

No. You go to your doctor like normal with the name they have in their system (maiden) and provide your insurance like usual. They know people get married. I've been married almost 2 years and still have prescriptions in my maiden name, paid for by insurance in my married name.

It shouldn’t be an issue, but you can always have the insurance company correct your name if you’re not changing it.

Yes, everything needs to match. I'm surprised they issued you a health insurance card in your married name since it's not yet your legal name.

Long term you probably want it to match but I’m sure this situation comes up all the time. All you should need to fix it is your marriage license/proof or name change and quick phone call

You'll probably have to bring your marriage license with you.. but i would call the Dr.'s offices in advance just to be sure.
