How to tell vendor not interested

Trish, on October 13, 2016 at 10:39 PM Posted in Married Life 0 10

How do you politely tell a vendor (DJ, photographer etc) that you have decided to go with someone else? I am really bad at telling people no, and I'm always afraid of hurting people's feeling or coming off as rude.

I just emailed them that it was nice meeting or talking to them but we chose another vendor that better fit our needs or price or whatever the case was.

Yes, just be nice and honest. I work for a small business and I would love to know why people turn us down. If people would provide more feedback then I can start seeing what our competitors are doing different from us and we would also learn what are customers really want.

It's business and your wants, needs and money. So just be honest. Smiley smile

Just be polite and professional. It's part of doing business for them so you shouldn't be concerned with hurting their feelings as long as you are respectful.

I pretty much said exactly what AMW said. For my first photographer I had to, for lack of a better term, fire because he never sent me the pictures from the engagement shoot (at that point it was 6 months). Luckily he hadn't sent me the contract for the wedding photos (though I had requested one many times) I was not in breach of a written contract but I was in breach of a verbal. I was honest with why I was going another way for my wedding photos, since he didn't deliver for the engagement photos I felt as though he breached contract first. He agreed and we went our separate ways.

Hi, thank you for your time and meeting with us. We went with a different provider based on style (or other reason, or leave that part out) however that can be helpful to know for market research, and now they know not to keep sending emails or calling and they can move on to fill the date. Thoughtful of you to let them know. It sucks when there are crickets.

I just thanked them for their time but said that budget wouldn't allow, or that things changed. It's probably not a big deal to them; especially for popular wedding months.

I just said thanks for the quote but it's above our budget or we decided to go with someone else.

Fyi I did get some lower offers by doing this which was nice.

Please, please, please...tell your vendor you are not interested. You can say it as simply as this, "We so appreciate your input, but we've decided to go in another direction. We truly appreciate your time." That tells us that we can move on to the next bride who contacted us after you. Our feelings are not hurt. This isn't personal, it's business. We want to move on, just as you do.
