How to choose whose house to go to for Thanksgiving?!

My grandmother is serving a late lunch for my family at 1:30, and my husband's mom is doing lunch at 12:30. I of course really want to go to my grandmother's house and see my family. For the same reasons, he wants to go to his family. The two houses are a 30 minute drive apart. Now that we're...

Now that we're married, it's really important to me for us to do things as a couple... but how in the world can we choose?!

Please tell me what your thanksgiving plans are so I can figure out what other people do!

From early in our relationship H and I agreed to do Thanksgiving with his family for two reasons. 1) I work retail and always have to work either Thursday night or Friday (or both) and 2) I didn't want to give up Christmas with my family (and luckily he agreed).

If our families were closer, we would probably see them both for each holiday but its too far of a drive. If we were in your shoes where its only a 30 minute drive we would likely do dinner/lunch at one and then dessert at the other.

My Dad is almost 4 hours away, and FH works all the holidays. (Sigh)
So this year I’m doing a small him and me Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, then we’ll got see FILs on Saturday.
For Christmas I’m going to my Dad’s for a couple days leaving FH all alone which I’m sure his family would disapprove of. Then we’ll go to their place either the weekend before or the weekend after.
I hate spending holidays away from FH but I want to see my Dad too. It’s hard.

Growing up we always went to my moms family’s for dinner and then dads family for dessert and would make an effort to see them again over the weekend! It seemed like a fair split.

Start at his families. get there early so it doesn't seem as rude when you leave early. leave at 1:30 you will get to your families late but these things never run on time.

This is pretty much what we always do.

12 - my grandparents (we will not get there early because well we don't like them that much lmao

1 - leave and drive back to town (about thirty minutes.)

    1:30- dinner with the in-laws

    3ish- home and nap

5ish - get back together with my immediate family. have dinner and play board games until we leave (around midnight) for black Friday shopping.

shop until around 9am, get home change and grab luggage then head out by 10 am

11:30 - stop in, get measured and order my dress

4pm - meet his mom in Branson.

stay 2 nights then stop at his mothers parents on the way home Sunday for another thanks giving.

we will do pretty much the same for Christmas. I know a lot of people just choose 1 or switch back and forth but personally we just can't choose

We’re hosting this year and none of our family is coming, we’re having Friendsgiving instead! Honestly, this is the most excited I’ve been about Thanksgiving in years. We will see all our family in 2 weeks for the wedding, so I didn’t expect my family to make the 9+ hour trip twice that close together.

Going to try to convince FH to do this again next year!

How fun! Yeah for us it's a little different because my mom & stepdad live 9 minutes from us and my fiance's father & stepmother, and mother live 45 minutes from us. So it's a little hard not to justify driving and not doing Thanksgiving all together.
