How far in advance to book Hair and Makeup?

Elizabeth, on October 30, 2017 at 3:17 PM Posted in District of Columbia Planning 0 20

I am a little less than one year away from our big day!!! I would like some advice on how far in advance to book the hair and makeup vendor, is it best to use one person if he/she is a stylist and makeup artist? Any ideas on where to schedule my trials? I am looking for a place in DC near the 20006 zipcode. Thank you for all advice provided!

I reached out to a few places around the 1 year mark, and decided on one shortly after. I am talking with them now (9 months out) about finalizing the contract, timing, etc. I will go for a trial about 2-3 months before the wedding. It was the last vendor that I needed to research (since I pretty much knew who I wanted to use from past experience for everything else).

I booked mine back in April. They were not only the best price, had the best reviews and customer service and was everything I was looking for. I haven't booked my trials yet. I am in Baltimore and will be using Up Do's for I Do's. They have wonderful customer service and reviews and a few of my friends have used them.

I booked mine only 5 months in advance and had my trial a month before. I used Perry Warren who does both hair and makeup. He was fantastic! He does trials at his hair salon in Springfield VA but will travel to you in DC for your wedding day.

I am looking into booking one now and I'm a little less than 5 months out (I meant to look sooner, but kept not getting to it). I have a friend who is a professional make up artist and I am using her for my wedding make up (I know friendors is a bad thing here, but I hate when strangers touch my face and this woman has been doing my make up for me since we went out partying in college together, so no one knows my face and what make up looks good on it more), so I'm only booking a hair person. Overall, it's probably easier to book someone who does both or if you have a hairstylist you really like ask her if she has a make up person she recommends (I think it's better to have people who know each other and who have worked together before to make getting ready that day more efficient).

Start looking now! This was one of the vendors I thought I would be fine waiting on. I started reaching out in January for my June wedding and many stylists were booked already! I ended up doing my own makeup and it was fabulous, and my hair girl was amazing... but definitely start looking now so you don't stress!

Possibly asap if you already have a MUA or company in mind. They book pretty fast too.

I just booked my hair and make up artist. She did great and was very sweet and honest. She made it clear she doesn't hold dates for anyone so I decided to book her and her team right away! She also had the best prices and is very experienced.

I'm also getting married in the DC area - you should reach out ASAP. I reached out to about 4 people who were all booked. Granted, September is a bit more popular than October but DC vendors book up fast.

I hired Glam Bridal Beauty, she does both hair and make up. She did my friend's wedding last year and did an amazing job, plus she's more affordable than some other vendors I've talked to.

I started looking in July of this year for HMUA and booked in early August. I didn't do a trial with who I booked with yet, but I read reviews, spoke with her on the phone, and was happy with the prices she gave so I booked her. I reached out to 10 different artists and many were booked already. So I chose to just book who I'm going with.

I already booked The Beautiful Dream Team and will do trials sometime next year.

They're not based in the DMV area but they travel, had great prices, amazing reviews, and the pictures were gorgeous!

My salon books their clients as far in advance as they'd like, and books non-clients up to 1 year in advance.

I am getting married in a pretty busy month, so I booked in Sept for my June wedding. My first choice was already reserved that day and my second was available so I jumped on it!

I'm not sure about timeline, but my sister is a stylist at Scissor and Comb in Takoma Park right near the Silver Spring metro. The salon has been #1 on the Washington Post best salon list for two years in a row. My sister did my updo for my wedding, and I loved it. I looked amazing all 10 hours.

I booked mine in April for this December. However, my wedding is on a Friday and not prime wedding season.

I just booked my MUA and I am the week after you. It was someone I really wanted and I knew would book up fast... I'd rather be safe than sorry. I will be booking my hair within the next month or so...

I'm nine months out and just booked my hair/makeup artist. I'm using someone who does both because it's cheaper and she does an amazing job doing both. I feel I booked early compared to most but I live in California where they get booked up so quick and being in the middle of wedding season I'd rather just have it booked early without having the stress of trying to find someone later.

Thank you all for such awesome advance! I went ahead and had a trial and makeup I thought it was to soon but I am so glad I did as you all have mentioned they booked up pretty fast!! I decided to go with Andre Chreky, the salon spa in DC!!! The experience was awesome, their special event coordinator really set them aside I dealt with one person through the booking process and even the other staff was so sweet I did try another vendor near their salon and I wasn't as pleased at all. If interested they are located at 1604 K ST NW!! Check them out!! I am scheduled with Rodney (who has been named the go to for wedding hair and makeup) he has the articles to prove it lol!! I can't believe how lucky I am to have booked already now I can mark this off my list!! I plan on having another trial closer to the day I keep you'll up to date!!! : )
