How Early is Too Early

Allison, on June 21, 2019 at 9:19 AM Posted in Registry 0 14

I'm not getting married until November 2020, but my future husband and I have a google sheet with some items we'd really like to put on a registry. Is it too early or wrong to just set one up to keep track of items we'd like even though the wedding is 1.5 years away?

I just started on with BBB for June 2020. I have the setting set on privet so we can add and delete things as we want and then once it's ready we will make it public and just keep checking on it to make sure nothing gets discontinued.

You can start your registry whenever you want. It's not like your telling your guests about it yet. Registry information isn't given out until bridal shower or wedding invites go out.

No one will even know so I guess I don’t see the problem, but it’s just going to be more of a hassle for you in the long run. Most of the items will be replaced or discontinued within 17 months.

I agree. I wouldn't register this early unless you know someone is planning a bridal shower for you soon.

Thank you! I realize some things will no longer be available. Things don't have to be the same brand or the exact thing on the list, just need a more effective "wish list" I guess.

I started mine early. I have a hard time asking for stuff so for me the extra time is really helpful. I know not everything will be available in the future but it's good have ideas so when the time comes we can finalize the list instead of scrambling.
If you dont tell anyone about it nobody will know you have it so when you start doesn't matter so much as when you share it.

That's ok! It's just a list of items you want at the end of the day. People don't have to buy it for you yet either.

We set our Amazon registry up 18 months in advance. It gave us time to add things as we thought of them, and take off things we really didn't need. We had time to really think about it! I checked it every week or so, so I was able to monitor things going out of stock (it happened with two things, that's it).

I wouldn’t be sending it out to people or anything but there’s no reason you can’t set one up!

I started mine early and our wedding isn’t until October 2020. It gave us time to think what items we really needed. Just keep in mind some items may be out of stick by the time you make your registry public to your guests.

We started our early and like others have said, made it private so it's not searchable yet. It was a really fun day to go register and it made my FH feel more involved and excited!

We started ours super early. We had a free day to set one up.
If items become unavailable, we change them.

I did my registry 1 year out. You can do it this early just be prepared to have to go back and change things multiple times because of items that go discontinued. In the past 9 months since we created our registry I went back and changed items due to discontinued about 4-5 times. So its ok to start now to keep track just be prepared for having to go back anf fix it a few times.
