Honeymoon Funds Instead Of Gifts

Mackayla, on September 15, 2019 at 8:54 AM Posted in Registry 0 7

So, my fiance and I have been together for years. We already live together and have home stuff that is typically on registries. With that being said we are thinking about asking people for honeymoon funds instead of gifts. Has anybody done this? Was this successful? Is there a website you used? Please let me know your tips and tricks! Thanks in advance!

Honeyfunds are a scam. They are useless websites that offer no real service but take a chunk of your money.

If you want cash cash just don’t register anywhere. People understand if you don’t register you want cash. That way you get to keep all of your gift.

There are literally hundreds of posts on here asking the same thing you have.
The general consensus seems to be that they suck and are misleading to guests.
    1) the companies generally just take a chunk of the money given.
    2) the money just gets deposited to your bank account rather than buying vouchers for the activities that guests think they're buying you.

I used Zola and I broke it down to honeymoon fund and then into individual activities (I actually used it for those activities too). Anyway I noticed people were more inclined to buy the activities than to give to the general fund. But at the same time the amount of people who gave overall to it vs who gave cash at the wedding was high. Most people will opt for the cash option.

I actually just registered with Disney Honeymoons. I haven't read anywhere though that they take a portion of anything so I'm actually not quite sure how this will turn out. Now I'm not even sure if I should keep it. That worries me a little bit.

The general consensus on WW is anti-honeymoon fund, but I disagree.

In my experience, at the weddings of family members who’ve done it, the older people in the family have really enjoyed it—they weren’t turned off by it at all. My 70-something year old aunt proudly showed off the thank-you card she got from a cousin of mine for buying them dinner and drinks one night of their honeymoon and talked on and on about how fun she thought the idea was.

Yes, honeymoon fund sites take a small percentage of the money you’re given. They have hosting fees and employees to pay. I’m pretty sure some of them let the couple eat the cost so the guests don’t see, which I think is the way to go.

Yes, you’ll just be given the money rather than vouchers for the individual experiences the guests “paid” for. The solution? If someone paid for something, go do it and send them a specific thank-you note. I don’t understand this complaint, tbh.

I think honeymoon funds are a great idea. It’s a good option for couples who really don’t need anything, older relatives have fewer issues with it than some want you to think (and those that do have issues with it are probably the sort who will always find something to complain about, so don’t worry about them).

I will say, having a traditional registry does give you a good chance to upgrade the home goods you already have. I plan to do both a honeymoon fund and a small registry (FW and I have lived together for 5 years now) and use it as a chance to get plates that aren’t from the dollar store and linens that aren’t whatever’s cheapest at target 😂

I prefer when couples don't register and people get the hint and gift cash.
