Rental houses will not let you hold an event on their property. I'd look in to having everyone at a restaurant or something like that. Do you know Oahu well? There are companies that deal with this.

Alan Wongs in Honolulu is amazing. Yes definitely contact someone in Oahu to help you, because you'll need to rent everything and get it to the beach and ensure you're allowed to be on said beach. It is beautiful there though! We just got back from Oahu like 2 weeks ago Smiley smile

Beach weddings in Hawaii are still going to be public. You need a permit for the beach but cannot prevent people from visiting the beach.

For my wedding on Maui I hired a planner and it was really low stress. We went with a private venue and restaurant reception.

What is going wrong? Hawaii is one of the most popular wedding locations in the country so its relatively easy to find people who have done something that you are trying to do and are familiar with whats needed.

Hi there! I'm getting married in Oahu in May. I feel your pain.. My planning hasn't gone wrong (*knock on wood) but I'm stressing about it too. Destination wedding is tricky.

Our venue is a hotel, so we had to use their 'package'. Obviously there are pros and cons, but biggest pro is that pretty much everything is bundled together = less decisions to make.

I also definitely recommend hiring a planner/coordinator, or at least a 'day-of' coordinator.

Due to extreme costs, we ended up hiring a day of coordinator. She's been kind of helping me already (she's not 'supposed to' start helping me until 3 months prior to the wedding), but I know she'll be really helpful on the day of for sure! If your budget permits, consider hiring a planner/coordinator, especially if you are doing a 'non-packaged' wedding.

    Hope your planning goes well!

Not true at all!! Hawaii weddings at rental houses are actually very popular!! I can recommend looking up @moanabluhi on instagram... they have the perfect homes and specialize in events at them! Also I reccommend looking up jayleigh daniel for your photographer, she just did our engagement photos there and was AMAZING!!! she has been helping me plan my wedding in hawaii by sending me tons of recommendations. If you are going to splurge, hire moana events as your planner.. very pricey (8k minimum) but we are using her and her stuff is awesome!!

I would recommend to choose a venue to start with... Estates / rental properties that allow weddings tend to be more flexible, but usually don't help you with any of the planning or vendor selection. Hotels are not as flexible, but are helpful as they offer packages and/or a list of preferred vendors to guide you; event managers at the hotel have a lot of experience and can offer suggestions / some help with planning. I have not found very many restaurants that offer a wedding package that includes the ceremony, mainly just the reception dinner; there might be one in Waikiki (Coconut Club / Tiki's)?

Agree with the other post... Hawaii beaches are considered public property, and therefore, most beaches are easily accessible to the public. An estate / rental property may be the most private location for a "beach" wedding, but they tend to keep the events on the private property, not much set up allowed on the actual public beach.
