Happy Wife, Happy Life or Happy Spouse, Happy House?

The Bride, on June 16, 2019 at 10:22 AM Posted in Married Life 0 22
My husband absolutely hates the phrase "happy wife happy life" as he feels it's one sided and nothing in a marriage should be one sided. He prefers the phrase "happy spouse, happy house" because both of our happiness is important for the marriage to thrive.

Which phrase do you subscribe to? Happy Wife, Happy Life OR Happy Spouse, Happy House?

Thank you for posting the first comment. Prior to joining this discussion did you have your own saying that you would use? Or did you just use the same saying your husband would use?

I love this!! The sentiment of a good relationship leading to general happiness is really lovely, but "happy wife, happy life" has always felt a bit too much like an old-fashioned 'women demand satisfaction' thing, to me at least. Happy spouse, happy house is far nicer! Especially considering mine and my fiancé's marriage will be wifeless :')

I agree that "Happy Spouse, Happy House" is far nicer. It ensures that both partners satisfaction is considered.

Multiple people in the comment section stated that they never heard of the phrase and I'm honestly not surprised. I think men came up with it recently Smiley laugh

Happy spouse, happy house for sure!! We balance each other out! If one of us is having a crap day, the other will make sure they feel better by the end of the night, even if that means leaving them alone! We work together to make sure everything is taken care of, and we know what makes the other happy! Silly little things like our favorite chocolate bar or a note before work. We definently both try our hardest to make sure the other is happy!!

For sure!! One of my favorite quotes about marriage is:

"You know when you are ready to marry when you have seen your partner through financial trouble, the death of a loved one, and personal illness. If you can make it through that, then you are ready to marry."

My FH and I have been through all of that. We've lost grandparents, cousins, and best friends. We've struggled financially. He helped me recover from chronic illness flare ups and back surgery. I've helped him with anxiety and depression. And were still together. It's made us stronger. And I wouldnt trade our experience for anything.

FH and I both hate "happy wife, happy life". It feels very much like a pushback against equality.

"Happy spouse, happy house" feels much more balanced. I'm not sure it quite fits the thoughts I have about partnership, but it certainly could be part of it.

I would say happy spouse happy house, though my husband always hears from other guys that it's happy wife, happy life. I don't like that, though. Everything is equal. If he isn't happy I'm not happy and visa versa.
