Engagement Party

We got engaged at the end of September 2018 and because of the holidays we didn't have our engagement party until January. We planned it ourselves (gasp!) but obviously didn't expect gifts or anything. Both of our families contributed and helped out the day of with appetizers, flowers, decor, and alcohol. We held it at our apartment complex because they have a beautiful mulitpurpose/amenity room which was free for us to use.

Anyone can throw you an engagement party, or in my case you can throw it yourselves and just keep it casual and not a gift giving event.

Typically it's 1-2 months after the engagement so pretty quick. I've been to ones hosted by the bride or grooms parents.

They're typically 1-3 months after the proposal. Anyone can host the party for the couple, but it's traditional for it to be one of their parents.

We got engaged on New Year's Eve and had an engagement party in March. My parents threw my sister's engagement party, but my FH's family hosted ours. My family all live in another state so they helped FH family step up/clean up.
