Engagement Party

I didn't have one, but I've been to them. They are typically thrown by someone else (family member or friend usually). Essentially, they're just a house party to celebrate the couple's engagement.

My future MIL hosted one for us. We basically had a big house party with a bunch of food and all our family and friends came. We played some trivia games about each of us and it was really nice. Its basically your big announcement that you are engaged and a way to introduce both families so they can get to know each other before the wedding. If you plan on having one though make sure you don't invite someone you aren't sure you are going to invite to the wedding.

We had a party a couple months after the proposal...rented a room at the Hilton and did buffet style brunch with 30 of our closest friends and family!

We had an engagement party. We catered it with Mission BBQ at our new home. We had lots of alcohol and games. We drove to a Costco and bought a ton of alcohol for cheap!

Its usually planned and hosted by a friend or family member. You can literally do anything you want and hold it anywhere you want. My mom hosted ours and because my fiance and i are huge children at heart, we had our engagement party at Dave & Buster's.

Ours was really simple, we went to a restaurant. It was his parents, my parents, and one of my aunts, her husband, and 3 of their kids. Just a dinner representing the joining of our families. We had a little congratulatory cake, too.
