We got engaged in January (2017) and had photos in March - but, full disclosure, we only had a 6 month engagement

Congratulations!!
We had an engagement party. It was probably 4 months or so after we got engaged. We invited family and only close friends that we knew would definitely be invited to our wedding. We didn't want to invite everyone in case we'd have to cut the guest list down the road. We had it a Knights of Columbus in Brooklyn. It was a beautiful venue and the food was fabulous!

Sorry - totally misread your question (it's early lol). Anyway - no we did not do an engagement party - for several reasons: 1 - we were far away from everyone 2 - anyone you invite to *any* prewedding event has to be invited to the wedding, and I didn't want to lock myself in and 3 - we were grad students, so the budget wasn't necessarily there

We had an engagement party in the sense that after my fiancé proposed he took me to a fancy hotel bar and surprised me with both of our families there to congratulate us. So that was the same day as we got engaged. But otherwise no, we did not have an engagement party.

Hey, my heartfelt congratulations . I got engaged in January 2020 and arranged our engagement party after 4 months. That was a small gathering; we only invited close relatives and friends from both families. We really made our day with lots of happiness and fun.
