Hi!

I need some advice please. So I am newly engaged and planned on having an engagement party in October. A family member is having their wedding a month later and I didn’t see this as being a big deal as I figured people were already committed to the wedding and wouldn’t expect them to come to both events. I’m in the early planning stages and it is coming to light that me having the party a month before is going to be a problem. Am I wrong for planning this party a month before the other event ??

I would move it if there is still time. You dont want to be perceived as stealing the limelight on purpose. Go for a month after or make it very very small. My two cents

A month before is plenty of time in between. They don’t get a whole month reserved for their wedding. Do a lot of people have to travel for both? If so then I’d just be prepared for a lot of declines for your party.

It's fine. You don't have to put your life in hold because someone else we each is getting married. There's no stealing limelight.

How would you feel if the roles were reversed? Would you feel like she’s taking the limelight away from you??

I think it’s fine just realize the opt guest probably won’t travel to your engagement party because they are already traveling for the wedding.

A month before I fine. Ian pretty sure if it is someone out of town they would go to the wedding not the party.

I don't see the big deal. I personally wouldn't attend an out of town engagement party, but I would try to attend an out of town wedding. Your party really shouldn't affect their wedding guest count.

Is there a significant reason for having to plan it so close to the other wedding? If not, then I would move the date. Since you are engaged now, why not plan it for this summer?
