Engagement Party Advice

Well is not the usual but you make it however works for you. No rules here! I think is a great idea for everyone to get to know each other before the wedding and since you have a destination wedding in June 2021 I say you do this soon so those that have to travel don’t spend much money close to both events.
I had my engagement party a year before my wedding which was also a destination wedding but I only invited locals for the EP since that was the majority of people. Our napkins, Snapchat filter, water bottles and wine labels were save the dates. Just an idea.

We got engaged on March 17th and just had our engagement party on August 11th. Our wedding we are eloping March 21, 2021. I think it just shouldn’t be too close to your actual wedding. We had a pretty fancy party since we are not having a reception post-elopement. People really liked our idea!

Hey Jasmyn! I think that this sounds like a wonderful opportunity to get everyone together before your wedding. It’s also great that you still have quite a bit of time before your wedding so that the expense of traveling will not be condensed into a short time period.

I’ve been in the same boat! Everything I’ve found online for proper engagement party etiquette assumes you’re getting married in a year. Well I got engaged December 2018, & FH and I are getting married March, 2021. So I figured we wouldn’t have an engagement party at all, since that’s so far out. Though we do plan to have a party a year prior to the wedding (March 2020) to announce bridesmaids + groomsmen. It will just be them only though (total of 14 people, if you include FH & I). I’d go for the engagement party if it’s something you truly want! I don’t think the timing matters, as long as it’s the right time for you & FH. My FH & I just have such large family & friend groups, so we figured an engagement party would also be another huge cost we didn’t want to deal with!
