Duplicate items

Shana, on May 17, 2020 at 4:25 PM Posted in Registry 0 7
If you get a duplicate item on your registry, i.e. I got a pressure cooker forever from my family and Nick's uncle got us one for our wedding, would you return it and get something you need? On Amazon, you can return it without the sender being notified.

We got a duplicate gift at my shower. My mom and my one of bridesmaids got us the same coffee maker so because we opened gifts in front of everyone at the shower they knew we got the same thing. Neither of them bought it from the store that we registered for it at so it wasn't marked off the registry as purchased. My mom said she could use a new coffee maker so kept the one she gave us and she bought us an instant pot. I told her she didn't need to buy us something different, but she insisted. My husband's aunt also got us the wrong set of plates so we exchanged them and paid the difference as the right plates were more expensive. I would probably return it and get something else that you registered for.

Yes. This happens quite often because sometimes people will buy the same item from a different store. You should be able to exchange it without issue.

I definitely think its not in bad etiquette to return the duplicate item. I mean what's the alternative...you have two of something and the second one just goes to waste anyway.

Yes just return it. Places like Bed Bath and Beyond will exchange them as long as they carry the product.

You still send a thank you note but they don't need to know you exchanged it. The benefit of registering at one place is they will remove the item from the list after it's purchased.
