diy Engagement Photoshoot??

Deborah, on June 14, 2019 at 1:40 AM Posted in Parties and Events 1 13
As I trim the fat on the wedding budget photography has landed on the chopping block. Engagement photos aren’t high on our list of must have items, yet I’d still like to possibly have some. I’m wondering if maybe getting a few props and our tripod and picking a few great scenic places in the city may be a good alternative. We live in NYC so we aren’t short on scenic locations. We even have a beach just a few short blocks away.

Has anyone done their engagement photos themselves that’s not a professional photographer? Were you satisfied with the results?

Has anyone got professional engagement photos and felt hmmmm we could have done this ourselves???

Those who got them done professionally and were glad they chose a professional what was it about your pics that made it worth a few hundred dollars??

If you skipped engagement photos altogether did you find yourself wishing you’d taken photos at any point down the line???

Trying to get different perspectives on engagement photos. Thanks in advance

I did mine with my best friend just using her nice camera and they came out really well. I am sure you can find a friend who is into taking pictures that can do it. One other thing I found is there are tons of photographers looking to build their portfolio so they give out free photoshoots. Try Craigslist

I did my engagement photos with the photographer who will be doing our wedding. I liked that it gave us a chance to see if we would get along with our photographer and if we would like her style of photos for our wedding

I’ve never even considered this 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m going to check into that. I do have a cousin who seems to like photography based on his instagram. I’ll check in that direction too. One thing I realize is the fatal flaw in my Planning is I don’t think to ask friends and family to help with things.

That’s definitely true!!! 🤔 I haven’t considered getting experience with the person capturing the big day.

A friend of mine did DIY engagement photos (or just had a terrible photographer) but they truly look horrid. That sounds mean, but it’s true. So many of her photos has terrible lighting (or lack thereof), bad coloring (from using a great camera without any editing software), and captured angles that were NOT flattering.

A photog can move themselves in real time so the shot is good. They can tell you to shift slightly, or relax your hands. They see the sweet eye contact you make with your partner transitioning between shots/shoot locations and some of those are the best photos (at least mine were). They capture your laugh when he tickles you...... There’s nothing like the real thing.

I did mine with my iPhone and edited it with a basic filter that was on my phone and i think they came out beautiful. We’ve gotten a ton of compliments and people are so surprised we did it ourselves.

I found my engagement photographer through Groupon... I paid $80 for our 1.5 hour session ang got about 55 pictures!!! So worth it!! I wouldn’t have paid more than $200 though, staying on budget as well...

A friend did engaged couple pics for us. With his permission, after getting a couple small prints for us, we transferred a few files to our wedding photographer to edit and print with our wedding pics, and they were included as the first few pictures of our album. The photographer did no retouching, but cut and framed each shot so it was balanced, people centered, and such. Between the two, we could not have gotten better shots from a professional.

It’s good to know you can have photos you are happy with even if you don’t get a “professional”.
